InspirationAs a follow up to a previous piece Oh Holy Spirit I decided to set music to another prayer, this time by Saint Columba. During the composing of the music my mother was sick in a nursing home with dementia and copd. My Mom always spoke of going on adventures and journeys; this prayer in many ways reflected her faith so it seemed fitting to write the music around the theme of Journey On My Way with My Way reflecting Gods way. By the time the piece was finished she had passed away. I sang the piece at her funeral commemorating her new adventure and journey in the presence of God. The Music A simple melody in the spirit of the great shaker hymn Simple Gifts. The A section of the music represents a stanza in the prayer which is then followed by a short B section where God reminds us to Journey On, Journey On My Way. The first AA sections are sung by a soloists, followed by the entire choir and then concluding in a bravura section featuring 2 tenors.

In August 2023 wildfires spread throughout the Hawaiian island of Maui, eventually destroying the town of Lahaina. With homes burned to the ground and many casualties incurred, the residents of Lahaina began to make efforts to rebuild their homeland as well as to move on from this devastating event. Inspired by these events and the artistry created by the students and teachers of Lahaina, this choral multimovement work represents the events of the horror, aftermath, and triumph from going through powerful events such as this. Each movement is distinct in their performance textures and message. Cacophony, aleatory, call and response, and even a mele hula are just some of the features included with this work. Three drums (pahu) supplement the performance with their driving rhythms and supportive, emphatic passages. This work is dedicated to the victims and survivors of the Lahaina wildfires. Published by Joshua Shoemaker (A0.1025362). Loch Lomond has its roots in the Jacobite uprising of 1745. This rebellion was the final and bloodiest Scottish war for independence. It ultimately failed, and many Scots were taken prisoner. Some prisoners were pardoned and freed, while others were condemned to death. It is here the song depicts two such prisoners. Both are friends, but one has been pardoned, while the other has been condemned. The song is from the point of the condemned friend, speaking to his freed friend. The condemned friend states that while his spirit will reach Lake Lomond, Loch Lomond that is, before his friend, the condemned friend's spirit will never be able to communicate with his significant other again. Whereas the freed friend has demanding physical journey home, but will be able to see his significant other again.

So I thought Why not write a ‘Pantomime for Summer’ and this is it!PANTOMANIA takes you on a journey into the mystical world of fairy tale and fantasy, where words on a page become real-life characters when our heroine, Victoria falls into a wishing well and on climbing out, finds herself in the ‘Children’s Section’ on a library bookshelf. We follow her as she moves from page to page trying to find a way back home, assisted by the ‘Scarecrow’ plus an odd assortment of picture book characters. A great fun-musical for all of the family with plenty laughs and a few screams along with foot-tapping songs. It can be performed by any mixed age group age from 12 - 60.
