English, Slavonic.Nye Ãmamï inïya pómoshchi comes from a set of ten communion hymns, Opus 25. It is technically a kontakion, (a hymn sung in commemoration of a feast day, whether referring to Christ, the Virgin Mary, or to a saint). Nye Ãmamï inïya pómoshchi is intended to be sung for the feast day commemorating an icon of the Virgin entitled “The joy of all who sorrow,†(Ð’Ñех ÑкорбÑщих РадоÑÑ‚ÑŒ|Vsekh skorbyashchikh Radost') observed on October 24 in the Orthodox Church calendar. The author of the text is unknown. In contemporary church practice, this work is sometimes sung during the communion of the clergy. Although other pieces in Opus 25 are based on traditional church chants, Nye Ãmamï inïya pómoshchi contains original music that is not based on any preexisting chant. The present edition is based on the first edition published in Moscow by Pyotr Ivanovich Jurgenson. The keyboard reduction has been modified from the Jurgenson edition. Russian Orthodox performance practice forbids the use of musical instruments to accompany church singing. Organ accompaniment, if used, should be unobtrusive. The Jurgenson edition includes Chesnokov's use of a quarter note without metronome marking. This indicates that the pulse is in a moderato tempo in quarter notes. A tempo of approximately 69 to the quarter note is suggested. The Jurgenson edition has inconsistent dynamic markings in various parts and text appears only below the soprano and tenor parts. For clarity and convenience, these indications have been included in each staff in the present edition. This scholarly performance edition includes notes concerning the history of Chesnokov and this piece, performance notes, the editorial method of the English singing version, and a pronunciation guide for the Slavonic transliteration.

A sermon in itself, the poem recontextualizes the struggle of the Old Testament story of Jacob wrestling with an angel to current believers' struggles with faith. Isaac Watts, one of the fathers of English hymnody, stated that this poem was worth all the verses [he] had written. It is set here to a traditional Scottish melody, Candler or Ye Banks and Braes of Bonnie Doon, and arranged for SATB choir. It opens with a tenor soli, joined by the other voices. When the speaker makes demands of his divine opponent, the anthem modally shifts to the parallel minor. Eventually, the choir wrestles, as the four wrestling verses of the poem are sung at the same time in a 4-part canon. Finally, the speaker's epiphany is accompanied by a key change and a joyous conclusion in 4-part harmony.

It is predominantly used as a hymn for Good Friday usually in a setting by John Ireland who evidently composed it over lunch one day. This is a completely new SATB setting of Crossman’s wonderful text by Colin Kirkpatrick. In this setting there are opportunities for alto and tenor solos though they can be sung tutti if more appropriate. The keyboard part is essential though there is an a capella section in the middle. The highest note in the soprano part is one A flat above the treble staff. This is an accessible arrangement with rich harmonies and soaring melodic lines. It is sure to be a success at Easter occasions. Other SATB titles in this series of three Easter canticles are Alone Thy goes forth, O Lord (Text by Peter Abelard 1079-1142) and A Time to Watch, A time to Pray (Text by John Mason Neale 1818-1866. In the audio sample, soprano is played by the flute, alto by the oboe, tenor by the clarinet and bass by the bassoon.

This setting of Psalm 130 (Out of the depths have I cried to you, O Lord) was written as a response to the covid-19 lockdown crisis. It is a prayer for help in the midst of difficulty and sin, waiting for God with hope in his compassion and forgiveness. Its tempo marking of soulful, but rhythmic highlights the character of the weary, bluesey theme in B flat minor and its falling chromatic accompaniment. However, there are signs of hope throughout the setting, and the last verse mixes its principal key of G major with the original rise and fall of the minor third interval (G to B flat). Hope is, after all, sure and certain, yet it is a trust in a God who is ultimately unseen and unknownable.Psalm 130: Out of the depths have I cried to you, O Lord, Lord, hear my voice,O let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. It was located at 826-830 St. Louis St.2) It's about a women's prison in New Orleans called the Orleans Parish women's prison, which had an entrance gate adorned with a rising sun artwork. The melody is a traditional English ballad, but the song became popular as an African-American folk song. It was recorded by Texas Alexander in the 1920s, then by a number of other artists including Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie, Josh White and later Nina Simone. It was her version The Animals first heard.
