The key of G major (written A major) is a fine key for the solo trumpet to play and the counterpoint provided by these iconic tunes, one European, the other uniquely American, is compelling! This arrangement would be ideal across the denominations at any time during the year and especially Christmas and Easter. For added convenience the full score has an individual trumpet part as well as a two-page choral score attached. There is also a separate four page organ score attached.

This is a great piece to learn and refine a cappella singing and intonation, as the harmonies and voice-leading are intuitive. A piano reduction is included for rehearsal purposes.The rhythms are accessible, and there is minimal divisi - only about 8 measures in the soprano line. My friend and former student Jeffery Thyer asked me in 2013 to write something for a choir in NYC. They were doing a concert about money. I chose ten little sentences to set, from Carl Sandburg to the Gospels, Benjamin Franklin to Will Rogers. The set would make a fine concert closer for a decent high school choir, a community chorus, or a collegiate choir. Any of the ten little ditties may be omitted without damaging the whole concept too much. Looking for a humorous choral work? This may be it!

In più, ogni tentantivo di reinterpretarla con altra musica richiede di essere un artista altrettanto grande: io non sono nè grande nè artista, al limite... essere.Ho cercato perciò di stare vicino all'orginale, riconoscibile dal motivetto in sedicesimi che si ripete per tutta la canzone.Poiché si sa che la versione vocale stufa prima delle versioni suonate e l'originale dura 4 minuti, ho tagliato l'intera strofa Ti porterò.... Per chi volesse reinserirla, è facile: dalla battuta 41 si torna alla 5, si ripercorre fino alla 18 (con il testo cambiato per il solista, Ti porterò..., ma le altre voci sono identiche ) e si riprende dalla 42 fino alla fine.[ENGLISH]Arranging a piece by Franco Battiato it's not an easy game: lyrics are often very far in time and his singing very personal and narrative. Here the lyrics tells a love in a hard moment of life and every element is placed in a delicate balance where any change can be disruptive.Even trying to modify the music style would require an artist of the same weight, and I am not.So I tried to stay close to the original, using the most recognizable pattern of the song (the notes in sixteenth).Since we know that the vocal versions have to be shorter than the played ones (ears get bored before) and the original song if 4 minutes long, I cut the entire verse Ti porterò.... For those who want to play also the missing part, it’s easy: from bar 41 go back to bar 5, sing up to bar 18 (with the lyrics changed for the lead, Ti porterò..., other voices do not change) and then go ahead to bar 42 and from there to the end.

This is a solid little piece for SATB chorus. It lasts about 3 minute. It is secular in nature although it touches on philosophical topics which could be considered spiritual. It is recommended for people who are somewhat experienced singing modern music. Although not particularly dissonant, there are some parts that are tricky. Students would likely do fine with it. It is also recommended for people who like singing music that is nice for listening :). .

It is a firm favourite of carolling group 'All Change Please' whose 2019 performance of a slightly earlier version of this arrangement can be heard in the accompanying audio sample and YouTube video. This version has been updated so that it is easier to sing and more effective musically.
