Instrumental duo based on an anonymous 15th century macaronic song about a girl who was made pregnant, and then abandoned, by a cleric. The melody is taken by the guitar in with variations in the middle, while the melody instrument has a countermelody, and then, in the final section, the melody instruments provides a few divisions. The sound sample is an electronic preview For interest here are the words of the original song with my translation of the Latin bits: Up I arose in verno tempore [in springtime] and found a maiden sub quadam arbore [under some tree] that did complain in suo pectore [in her bosom] saying I feel puerum movere [the little boy moving] Adieu pleasures antiquo tempore, [in times gone by] full oft with you solebam ludere. [I used to play] but for my sins mihi deridere [they hold me in derision] with right good cause incipio flere [I start to weep] Now what shall I say meis parentibus, [to my parents] because I lay with quidam clericus [some man of the cloth] They will beat me cum virgis et fustibus [with sticks and clubs] and me sore chaste coram omnibus [in front of everybody] With the said child quid faciam [what shall I do] shall I it keep vel interficiam [or kill it] If I slay it quo loco fugiam [where shall I flee to] I shall lose God et vitam eternam [and eternal life].

Invocation The guitar introduces the evocative mood of the work, followed four measures later by the oboe, which with its characteristic sound, embraces the guitar into a conversation and at the same time into an invocation. The second theme, atmospheric, echoing reveals a waiting status. The work is full of fast arpeggios and technical difficulties for both instruments. Gradually increases in dramatic tension and complexity and concludes with the initial idea. The finale is simple, subtractive, allows a feeling of an unfulfilled expectation. Duos for guitar and Oboe are rare and always a challenging task for the composer. That was the primary reason of mine when I started working on this work, to accomplish a match that is unique and wonderful at the same time. Most of my music since that time explores the uniqueness of instruments and their interaction. Invocation was one of the first and its material used later by me in my First Guitar Concerto (Phygein Adynaton). Invocation was premiered at the TSAI Performance Center in Boston, MA and it was a prize winner at the Finalists of the 1994 ALEA Composition Competition

CINEMA PARADISO - LOVE THEME - duet for OBOE and GUITARFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This fantastic theme, Tema D'Amore, was written as an integral part of the film Cinema Paradiso.Ennio Morricone and his son Andrea rightly received a BAFTA award for the gorgeous soundtrack music.My arrangement captures the four “verses†that feature in this piece - each verse maintains the same thematic material but the accompaniment becomes more involved and with a thicker texture, before the piece fades away again. The guitar accompaniment is styled on the piano solo score, but tailored here and there to fit the guitar like a glove.The key here isn’t the same as the original, but it fits right into the “sweet spot†of the oboe's pitch range and allows for a guitar accompaniment that can use open strings to improve the sustain. Unlike other arrangements, this has plenty of space and few finger gymnastics, so the gentle movement of the original is easy to reproduce.I also have an arrangement for two guitars which moves the melody between the guitars as the piece progresses.I hope you enjoy playing this piece! At the time of publishing this arrangement, there seems to be only a single piano version of the original piece for sale which comprises just a snippet of the original.
