Prelude for Tag was written for my daughter Tagni when she was a 14-year-old and showing talent as an oboist. She began the instrument at age 12 and for one of those magical reasons... found a way to make this extremely difficult double reed instrument sound beautiful almost from the start. Tagni now has a son in high school who has an excellent sound on Clarinet. I transcribed Prelude for Bb instruments so he could perform the piece. Ranges and technique are limited in the solo part and piano. NOTE: In the F Major Version I typed in an Ossia option for the Low C at the ending phrase for Oboe performers. If needed.

The famous broken chords in the accompaniment are simplified from double notes to single notes and the result is a quasi Chopin-like nocturne. Perfect for early intermiediate piano students or oboe teachers who want to play with the piano part with their students with an easier but still enjoyable arrangement. It's a single movement classical piece for oboe and piano I wrote on the sonata form. But instead of the usual switching between tonal harmonies I switched between two different kind of harmonies, giving the piece a somewhat exotic taste. I used some glissando which one of the players said they were good as they were and the other (the one recording the piece) preferred to make them using the double-reeds.

It is sung by Lauretta after tensions between her father Schicchi and the family of Rinuccio, the boy she loves, have reached a breaking point that threatens to separate her from Rinuccio. It provides an interlude expressing lyrical simplicity and love in contrast with the atmosphere of hypocrisy, jealousy, double-dealing, and feuding in medieval Florence. It provides the only set-piece in the through-composed opera. This Aria is arranged by Raymond Fenech The duration is 3.21 minutes and it is an Intermediate level piece.
