A short, easy arrangement of the theme from Antonin Dvorak's famous New World Symphony (2nd Movement).

This arrangement provides a full score plus individual parts in both notes and TAB. The notes and TAB are given on separate sheets as I am aware that some teachers avoid TAB.

The parts are equally balanced with every guitarist enjoying some melodic interest.

The level is suitable for very early stage players. The music:

(1) Remains in open position
(2) Uses finger-friendly pentatonic shapes (as supported by many major pedagogic schemes)
(3) Requires players to alternate single notes between both thumb and fingers
(4) Gives time and space before engaging more-tricky fretted notes.

This arrangement is closely based on the version that the group 'Sky' played (with the electric guitar 'break') rather than the version for solo guitar. A version of my arrangement was originally performed by the Hampshire Guitar Orchestra, and the soundclip sitting alongside this score in the SheetMusicPress shop is part of a recording they made live in Concert. That soundclip features different sizes of classical guitar, but the arrangement here is for 4 ordinary guitars - or for a bigger sound, a large ensemble.

The essence of the electric guitar solo in Sky?s arrangement is captured in this arrangement in Guitar 1a, but it?s hard to play without a cutaway guitar, so there?s a second version with the solo an octave lower in Guitar 1b. The rest of the Guitar 1 parts are identical.

Both the Guitar 1 parts and the Guitar 2 part have finger positions shown on the score - this is so that all the fast runs can be slurred, which gives the melody a nice articulation and takes some of the workload away from the right hand. If you prefer to stay in one position and pluck the runs, that works well too.

The ?Literacy Path? is a purely avant-garde work that initially was written for a progressive jazz band. This, in any way, does not mean that the work should be taken merely as a transcription of the original version. Canon on Tongo for four guitars by Dan Jones

Canon on Tongo is a canon for four guitars at ten-bar intervals. At bar 61, guitar one returns to the beginning of the piece followed by the three others before a joint coda at bar 101. The da capo at bar 61 corresponds with the golden section of the piece.

The fingering is chosen to allow players to respect the full duration of the lines (where possible). The resonance created is also very important.

American minimalism music by Philip Glass arranged for guitar ensemble (4 guitars and acoustic bass). Ideal for college or high school level programs. Although fairly simple, this arrangement of the soundtrack of The Truman Show is a true crowd pleaser during public performances and concerts.
