CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIGHT - 4 GUITARS or LARGE ENSEMBLEFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes I first arranged this lovely tune for The Hampshire Guitar Orchestra, and my arrangement here produces the same big sound from an intermediate guitar quartet or large ensemble. School teachers will find this is an ideal piece for an end of semester concert, and adult ensembles will find it makes a restful interlude piece in a full-length concert.My arrangement comprises two verses and a Coda, but either verse could be repeated to make an even longer performance piece. There are no page turns.Guitar 1 suits the seventh position, and guitar 4 (which is in two voices) is all in the first and second position. The middle parts could be taken in a variety of positions, and I have left the fingering for you to choose. There are many places where the faster notes can be slurred, and this does make a positive difference to the overall fluidity of the piece.There are suggested dynamics which make the piece come alive.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR? - 4 GUITARS/LARGE ENSEMBLE For Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This is a lovely piece for guitar quartet or for a larger ensemble. This arrangement starts off in the key of A, with a deep, dark tune (as you'll hear on the soundfile). As each of the 4 verses enters, the texture thickens a little, and between verses two and three there is a big and uplifting key change and the tune climbs over an octave higher. With lots of imitation and a gentle flowing rhythm, this piece has something for each of the players to make their own. In the final verse, big flowing Spanish-sounding chords generate a massive wall of sound and the piece concludes with a slowed down end to the tune.This arrangement has featured in concerts in the UK for many years and it's become a real favorite with the audiences.I hope you enjoy playing it!

Guitar1 is the main vocal line, as sung by Freddie Mercury
Guitars2 & 3 contain many of the backing-vocal figures plus the electric guitarriffs and solo as played by Brian May
Guitar 4is a transcription of the bass line. It is an interesting andrhythmically-exciting part. Chord symbols are given in this part allowingchords to be added should the ensemble want these.
Guitar4 can also be played by a bass guitar. The part is also given in bass clef(sounding an octave lower).
A film of this arrangement will be available by the end of January 2020

PATAPAN - traditional carol - 4 GUITARS/LARGE ENSEMBLE For Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.There are TWO ARRANGEMENTS in this one edition.Derek Hasted writes This Burgundian Carol, first published in 1720, usually has four verses in the French version and three in the English. This arrangement has three verses, all in slightly different styles.The melody and the onomatopoeia in the lyrics are together meant to symbolise the fife (“Ture-lure-luâ€) and the drum (“Pata-pata-panâ€).In both arrangements Guitar One has melody, and it fits nicely in a mix of IV and V position. There is no fingering, because your ensemble might want to choose between two different approaches...A less experienced ensemble might prefer to venture up the neck just to reach for the A and B notes, and return to the first position as soon as possible...A more experienced group might want to stay up the neck to get a more rounded tone throughout. Depending on your choice of fingering, slurs might be possible to improve the flow.There are two versions of the lower parts. In the first arrangement, in “SATB†style, Guitar 4 plays the bass; Guitar 3 provides, in the three verses, percussion, a choral countermelody, and finally a Hurdy-Gurdy style drone; Guitar provides a countermelody.In the second arrangement, the roles rotate at the end of each verse, so that all the accompanying players have three very different verses to play. Guitar 1 stays with the tune, because in a mixed ability ensemble, moving the tune about tends to highlight any weaknesses. Well, more than a bit...As a Guitar Teacher I often have to teach beginners how to read music, and of course the seven names of the musical notes can be made to spell words. Like CABBAGE.This, then, is a little piece of kitchen-based nonsense, cooking up a rather unappetising dish comprising cabbage, egg, beef and a lot, lot more cabbage. Iâ??ve arranged it (if that is the word) to include nods to the renaissance and baroque periods.The scores contain mark-ups to show where a particular player has an item of food in their motif.As well as EGG, youâ??ll find some GEG (thatâ??s scrambled egg) and a BAD EGG (and some sad music). Youâ??ll also find that the recipe includes a helping or two of BEEF.Bach comes in for a special mention, as thereâ??s a fugue-like section where the subject comes in a fifth away from the starting key (which Iâ??ve loosely interpreted as being a recipe in a foreign language) and thereâ??s some stretti (well, just about) at the end, when the fugue subjects overlap a tiny, tiny amount. And we also pay homage to the pedal section of an organ, where the CABBAGE subject comes in down low at half the speed of the original.The final, jazzy, chord at the end contains seven notes that collectively spell CABBAGE.Guitar 4 is supplied in treble and bass clefs - either or both will work in a large ensemble.So there are lots of teaching points, lots of things to ask the audience to listen out for, and a lot of mischief in a compact piece.The musical refrain CABBAGE is not the greatest motif to work with, but on reflection, when you have this much cabbage, itâ??s much better to listen to it than have to eat it...I hope you enjoy playing this piece!This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. The dynamics of the original are retained in my arrangement, but the fingering is left to the players... Playing the lower parts up the neck will give a rich, cello-like, sound, but a first position performance will be robust and will use many familiar guitar shapes.This is a charming, gentle, pastoral piece and the sweet sound of the guitar suits it well.Those UK players of a certain age might just remember that this music introduced The Woodentops, a children’s string-puppet TV series which ran in black and white from 1955 till 1957, and was regularly repeated until 1973.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!
