"Scarborough Fair" is a traditional English ballad that hangs in some versions at least upon a possible visit by an unidentified person (the "third party") to the Yorkshire town of Scarborough.
The song implies the tale of a man who instructs the third party to tell his former love, who lives in said fair town, to perform for him a series of impossible tasks, such as making for him a shirt without a seam and then washing it in a dry well, adding that if she were to complete these tasks he would take her back into his affections. Often the song is sung as a duet, with the woman then giving her sometime lover a series of equally impossible tasks, promising to give him his seamless shirt once he has finished.

Derek Hasted writes "This charming piece, by Ennio Morricone, has found fame in the films Maddalena and Le Professionnel, and on television in An Englishman's Castle and The Life and Times of David Lloyd George. In the UK it reached number 2 in the Singles Chart.

This is my second arrangement of this charming piece - the first is for two guitars at an intermediate standard. This version (for 3 guitars or large ensemble) brings this lovely piece within the reach of less experienced players - there are some little tricks I've used to make the piece much easier to play without sounding noticeably different!

This arrangement is ideal for a school concert as well as for an adult trio who are still finding their feet with ensemble playing. The parts use familiar chord shapes and the arrangement is free of barr� chords.
