This is based on a well-known French canon concerning a seller of coco (a refreshing drink of liquorice and lemon water)This particular seller sold his goods when they were not really fresh.The coco sellers were active in the 18th and 19th Centuries, especially in Paris and Brussels but the custom faded out by the beginning of the 20th century (presumably with the advent of ice cream and ice lolly (popsicle) sellers)I have made these variations on the canon for advanced players, including beatbox and flutter tongue techniques - and just for fun - a bit of stamping. In the middle there is a bit of Klezmerand a slight detour into Polly Wolly Doodle, which returns at the endPerformed by The Budapest Scoring Clarinet Ensemble.

It is composed for trio, it consists of 3 connected movements and the main motif represents all 3 inversions of the C major chord.In the first movement the mentioned motif is worked out in numerous variants. The second movement is written in the parallel minor scale, where the main motif from the first movement appears only at certain spots in a restrained way. The third movement is a dancing merge of both previous movements. The liaison of the individual motifs becomes tighter until they completely melt down to the end.The PDF contains the score and all parts. Bremner's original 1780 London publication and also arranged by Hugo Riemann, and again wrongly attributed to Giovanni Pergolesi.It is actually the 1st movement of Gallo's 1st Trio Sonata.It was used by Igor Stravinsky as a basis of the first movement (Sinfonia) of his Neo Classical Ballet Pulcinella.The Pulcinella Suite for small chamber orchestra and 3 vocalists which was derived from the ballet, was written in 1922 and has no vocal parts. This is the original music he used as the basis of the Sinfonia.But even though Stravinsky used Pergolesi's melodies and bass lines with little change, he managed to put his own unmistakable stamp on the music through his use of modern harmonies and occasional rhythmic modifications.Arranged clarinet trio (2 Bb / bass) with alternative Bb clt for bass clt.

Mvts I and III, and Trio Sonata No 8 in Eb.All 3 Gallo mvts were used by Igor Stravinsky in the 3rd mvt. Scherzinoof his Neo Classical Pulcinella Suite. There is few bars joining the 3 mvts...one is Stravinsky's own, one is from a Pergolesi Opera.The Pulcinella Suite for small chamber orchestra and 3 vocalists which was derived from the ballet, was written in 1922 and has no vocal parts. But even though Stravinsky used Pergolesi's(which were in this case Gallo's) melodies and bass lines with little change, he managed to put his own unmistakable stamp on the music through his use of modern harmonies and occasional rhythmic modifications.I have used transcriptions of the original pieces, but have transposed them into the keys used by Stravinsky.
