II. Cum esset desponsata - Isaac
III. Tu solus qui facis mirabilis - Des Prez
The Passion Chorale is performed during Holy Week. Cum esset is performed during the Christmas season and Tu solus is a Sacred Motet from 1503.
The top part is available in tenor and alto clef parts and all parts are of moderate difficulty in this 7-minute work.

The prayer has often been set to music.Frank Gazda has beautifully arranged four musical settings of the prayer for Trombone Quartet by: Jacob Arcadelt (Renaissance), Johann Joseph Fux (Baroque), Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Classical) and Giuseppe Verdi (Romantic).Although originally composed as four-part choral settings, they work perfectly for the Trombone. Each piece stands on its own as a work of beauty, or the four can be performed as a whole. They are at a moderately advanced level of difficulty.

Psalm 1 by Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672), is taken from his collection of choral settings of several of the biblical Psalms of David, in which Schütz continued the polychoral tradition he had absorbed in Venice as a student of Giovanni Gabrieli. Schütz indicated in his preface to the Psalms, published in 1619, that due to limits on performance during the Thirty Years War, alternate instruments or voices could be employed as available. As Psalm 1 was composed for two choirs of voices, it might be an attractive option to double the parts in this version for brass. Also, the choirs might be placed some distance apart. The original version of Psalm I is for two four-part choirs, one of mixed voices and one of tenors and basses. (The original also calls for continuo accompaniment, but, as in similar works of Gabrieli, the choral parts sound complete in themselves.) Composer/arranger David Fetter (b. 1938) is a Trombone faculty member at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Also a conductor, his works are performed in concert, at festivals, and in educational settings in the U.S. and Europe and they have been recorded by leading soloists. Mr. Fetter is a former member of the Cleveland Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Radio/Telefis Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, the U.S. Army Band, and other ensembles, where he performed for conductors who included George Szell, Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, James Levine, Sergiu Comissiona, and David Zinman. At the Eastman School of Music he was a trombone student of Emory Remington and a member of the Eastman Wind Ensemble under Frederick Fennell. Tallis was the first English composer to set English words to music for the Church. 1. If you love me 2. Verily, verily I say unto you 3. Gloria Patri Number 1. is his most famous anthem, written in English as decreed by King Henry VI. Number 2, also an anthem, but to be used during the Anglican communion service. Number 3, Gloria Patri is a Doxology or short hymn of praise to God used by Catholics and high Anglicans. These three short works total about 3 1/2 minutes in length. The music is appropriate for moderately advanced performers, the first player should have a good high C (the first part is in tenor clef).

This momentous collection of 434 Chorales in three volumes taken from Bach's 200-plus cantatas and other choral works is a gift to the Trombone world and a major addition to the repertoire of Trombone Ensembles.
