David McKeown #711995. Published by David McKeown (A0.1109634). The most popular of Scott Joplin’s piano rags during his lifetime, The Maple Leaf Rag was published in 1899. Joplin lived for a while in Sedalia, Missouri and the Maple Leaf Club in that town is thought to have provided the name for this composition. It provided Joplin with a steady income for the rest of his life, and while he requested that it be played at his funeral, his wife refused as she felt it inappropriate. It turns out that the elixir was fake (just red wine), but it caused the two persons to realize that their love had always been real. My arrangement maintains this joyful, almost comedic, side of love's feelings. Following Ludovic's earlier piano arrangement I treat just three of the opera's many themes. I have altered and enriched some of the simplistic classical chord progressions. There are now numerous markings throughout, particularly in articulation. Each part requires accurate rhythms, and each part has some virtuosic extended patterned runs. The range for each instrument is wide-2 octaves plus a third. This piece is a fun way to show your technical skills in concert or audition/competition. Or useful anyplace that you want joyful melodrama (Donizetti's own description). Also works well for pre-wedding music if you prefer the humorous side of true love instead of the sappy stuff.

The Pink Panther Theme was written by Henry Mancini, for the 1963 movie of the same name. Winning three Grammies and a top ten hit in the US, the song has since become essential repertoire for saxophonists across the world, but sounds great on other instruments too. This version is arranged as a duet for one Trumpet and one Alto Saxophone.
Musicians at an intermediate level will find this ideal for formal and informal concert performances. Both parts have plenty of interest. The overall performance time is around two minutes. The full length performance on the YouTube link above is the Alto Saxophone version.
