In the late ‘50s just a handful of national TV shows in the US had a huge influence on the music and dance crazes of the time. Artists and dances came and went with dizzying speed. Chalypso was a short-lived craze in 1958 that combined the music of the new Rock’n’Roll with much-simplified steps borrowed from Cha Cha and Calypso; and no sooner had it caught on than it was itself supplanted by The Twist. Chocolate Chalypso is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by some syncopated rhythms and accidentals. With a playing-time of around one and a half minutes, Chocolate Chalypso is a perfect upbeat addition to any performance program, formal or informal. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Despite the song’s appearance relatively late in the Beatles’ discography, it was one of the first songs that Paul McCartney wrote, at the age of 16. When the song was finally recorded in 1966, Paul McCartney felt it was too slow and turgid. George Martin simply solved the problem by speeding up the tape and raising the pitch by one semitone. This version of When I’m Sixty-Four is arranged as a duet for one Trumpet and one Tenor Saxophone. The story goes that when John Lennon was at art school he used to invite Paul McCartney to college parties. At the time, French art culture was fashionable, and Paul McCartney used to pretend he was French despite no knowledge of the language. Later John Lennon suggested Paul should write a song recalling those times. Paul asked a friend’s wife, who happened to be a French teacher, for help with the French lyrics.This version of Michelle is arranged as a duet for one Trumpet and one Alto Saxophone. The full YouTube performance above is the Alto Saxophone version of the duet.Musicians at an early intermediate level will find this ideal for formal and informal concert performance. The overall performance time is a little over two minutes. Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with ensemble skills and expressive playing. He lived out his later years as a devout and charismatic clergyman in the English countryside, renowned for his direct and personal style. Amazing Grace is played three times, once in the traditional style in 3/4, then twice in a gospel swing style in 4/4.
