This version is arranged as a duet for one Trumpet and one Alto Saxophone. The words and music of Steal Away to Jesus are credited to Wallis Willis, a Native American freedman from Oklahoma. A local minister transcribed the song and within a few years it became a firm gospel favourite. The words have a meaning beyond the spiritual, with hidden references to the Underground Railway of the time that helped escaped slaves cross to Canada. In more recent times Steal Away to Jesus was arranged by Michael Tippett in 1944 and recorded famously by Mahalia Jackson and Nat King Cole. Steal Away to Jesus is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The song is played several times as a ballad, with ever changing accompaniment. The Pink Panther Theme was written by Henry Mancini, for the 1963 movie of the same name. Winning three Grammies and a top ten hit in the US, the song has since become essential repertoire for saxophonists across the world, but sounds great on other instruments too. This version is arranged as a duet for one Trumpet and one Alto Saxophone.
Musicians at an intermediate level will find this ideal for formal and informal concert performances. Both parts have plenty of interest. The overall performance time is around two minutes. The full length performance on the YouTube link above is the Alto Saxophone version.

Øب aims to capture the melody and spirit of this timeless music.Øب is written for players at an advanced intermediate standard and upwards. The preamble is in free time, like an improvisation, followed by the melody and instrumental interludes in a typical ten beat cycle. Øب has a performance time of around three minutes.
