That's a Plenty is originally a 1914 ragtime piano composition by Lew Pollack. Lyrics by Ray Gilbert (born 1912) were added decades later. The composition started out as a rag but is nowadays played as a part of the Dixieland jazz repertoire. The song has been recorded by numerous artists and is considered a jazz standard. This arrangement of That’s A Plenty may be performed by SATBBs Saxophone Quintet with substitute parts provided for Soprano (1st Alto), Baritone (2nd Tenor) and Bass (2nd Baritone). Duration is 2:22. The Brandenburg concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach (BWV 1046–1051) are a collection of six instrumental works presented by Bach to Christian Ludwig, Margrave of Brandenburg-Schwedt, in 1721. They are widely regarded as among the finest musical compositions of the Baroque era. Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 in F major, BWV 1047 was originally scored for a Concertino of natural trumpet in F, recorder, oboe, violin, with a Ripieno of two violins, viola, violone, and basso continuo (including harpsichord). This challenging arrangement has been adapted for a Saxophone Quintet: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone and Bass. An alternate Baritone part is included that is more saxophone friendly, and a 2nd Baritone part is included as a substitute for the Bass. Originally from a five movement Suite in A Major, BWV 832 for solo harpsichord, which Bach wrote around 1700, this Air is well suited as a concert or recital opener. The title perhaps is an allusion to the Air de Trompette in a group of pieces arranged from the opera Alcide by Marais and Jean-Louis de Lully. In this arrangement for saxophones, the original key has been changed to the more saxophone friendly Eb major. It can be played by SATBBs Saxophone Quintet with substitute parts for soprano (1st Alto), baritone (2nd tenor) and bass (2nd baritone). Kol Nidrei, Op. 47, is a composition originally written for cello and orchestra by Max Bruch. He completed the composition in Liverpool before it was first published in Berlin in 1881. It is styled as an Adagio on two Hebrew Melodies for Cello and Orchestra with Harp and consists of a series of variations on two main themes of Jewish origin. Bruch scored the work for solo cello, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, timpani, harp and strings. In the present arrangement for Solo Alto Saxophone and SATB Saxophone Quartet, the 1st alto takes the solo cello line, while the remaining four voices cover the orchestral accompaniment. Special thanks go to Mr. Marino Galluzzo, leader of the Three Rivers Saxophone Quartet, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for suggesting the arrangement and providing encouragement. The premiere performance took place at the 23rd Annual Saxophone and Woodwind Workshop, hosted by the TRSQ at California University in California, Pennsylvania, in June 2013. Baroque. 53 pages. James Pybus #6096827. Published by James Pybus (A0.764730). Benedetto Marcello was born in Venice on 24 July, 1686 and died at Brescia on 24 July, 1739. Marcello's life was a strange mixture of the political and the artistic. His brother, Alessandro Marcello (24 August 1669 – 19 June 1747) was an Italian nobleman, poet, philosopher, mathematician and musician. He wrote a concerto in D minor for oboe, strings and basso continuo, perhaps his best-known work. The work is in three movements and was first published in 1716 in Amsterdam. Its worth was affirmed by Johann Sebastian Bach who transcribed it for harpsichord (BWV 974). Several editions have been published of the famous Oboe Concerto in D minor. The edition in C minor is credited to Benedetto Marcello. This arrangement is for Solo Soprano Saxophone and SATB Saxophone Quartet. Duration is 10:20. Contact me at james.pybus56@gmail.com.
