The St Matthew Passion (German: Matthäus-Passion), BWV 244, is a Passion, a sacred oratorio written by Johann Sebastian Bach in 1727 for solo voices, double choir and double orchestra, with libretto by Picander. It sets chapters 26 and 27 of the Gospel of Matthew (in the Luther Bible) to music, with interspersed chorales and arias. It is widely regarded as one of the masterpieces of classical sacred music. The original Latin title Passio Domini nostri J.C. secundum Evangelistam Matthæum translates to The Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ according to the Evangelist Matthew Originally for alto voice, violin solo and string orchestra. The arias are in da capo format (ternary form). Erbarme dich, for alto, and Mache dich, mein Herze, rein, for bass, are examples of such arias in Part Two of the oratorio. Suitable for any combination of Clarinet, Trumpet, Soprano Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, and Baritone Treble Clef. Could be used for school, church or community. It can be presented with 1, 2 or 3 instruments (or more!) and it is possible to play 1, 2 or all 3 verses. The First part plays the melody all the way through and the part is identical on all 3 verses except for the key. The Second part adds harmony to verses 2 and 3. The Third part adds an obligato part on the Introduction and Verse 3. (this could be a teacher/adult/advanced student part if the other part(s) are played by students) Parts for Flute (part 2) and Violin/Glockenspiel (part 1) have been added - just in case! To contribute to the feel of a Silent Night, the piano part has been kept intentionally simple. Verse 3 can be played without the piano part, if desired, to add dramatic impact to the last verse. You can use any verse by itself, as each is a self-contained unit. If you want the melody alone, you can skip the Introduction to Verse 1 and start right on Measure 5 with the melody (you could even leave out the piano part!) The Concerto Grosso for Three Trombones with Piano accompaniment by Lindol Mitchell is a realization for Piano of the original orchestral score by Jeremy Niles Kempton. The original orchestral work was composed in 1961 as part of Mitchell’s Doctoral dissertation at the Eastman School of Music and was first performed in 1963 at a memorial concert for the composer after his untimely death. The solo performers were nine students of Emory Remington, including Ralph Sauer and Donald King. The work is is subtitled in stile Barocco and is in three movements. Movement I begins with an somber introductory Adagio followed by an Allegro in the style of a Bach Fugue led by the three soloists. Movement II is a slow and serious Larghetto in C minor. Movement III is a Presto in D minor in a Toccata style and is full of many mixed meter bars that add little little rhythmic surprises along the way. The 13-minute work is appropriate for advanced performers. The hand copied score and parts Concerto Grosso were rediscovered in the Sibley Library at the Eastman School of Music by Jeremy Kempton who then engraved and proofed them. He performed the work in 2011 with colleagues for the first time since its premier in 1963.

The title of this collection was inspired by the words found in Ephesians 5:19 (KJV) -- Speaking…in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord… This collection contains 10 hymns arranged for a one octave, 13-note chromatic scale Handbell choir with Piano accompaniment. For each song, the Piano provides an introduction then the Handbells play the melody and occasional 2-part harmony. Most songs include an optional repeat and second ending in case a longer song is desired. For each song, there is a combined score with both instruments (Handbells and Piano) on a grand staff plus two separate scores for the Handbells (one in standard format with black and white notes and the second with color-coded notes). The color-coded scores are enlarged so the colors are easier to distinguish and all sharps and flats are displayed (shown in the key of C) as reminders for beginning ringers. A color-coded note chart is also provided for each song which shows the Handbell notes used as well as the number of times each note is played. The note distribution is helpful when assigning notes to ringers. You may want to assign fewer notes to beginners or evenly distribute the bells between all ringers. As noted above, one of the Handbell scores for each song is color-coded for easier note reading for beginning ringers. These separate color-coded scores use the Chroma-Notes™ Colored Music System. If you have a set of Handbells with a different color scheme, Chroma-Notes Stick Ons can be purchased and applied so the Handbells match this color scheme. The number of ringers needed will vary depending on the skill level of the participants. For more advanced players, each person could be assigned two or three notes. For beginners, it is best to assign one or two notes to each person. Note assignment suggestions are included for each song and range from 4 to 9 ringers. These familiar hymns are perfect for small groups and especially beginning ringers. Most songs can be performed with as few as 5 people (4 ringers and 1 piano player). The Piano accompaniment is written for an intermediate player.Permission is granted to make up to 10 copies of each score.
