Here is a flowing instrumental trio arrangement (for FLUTE and/or VIOLIN duet with PIANO accompaniment) of a beautiful hymn from the early 1900's titled My Song by D. S. Hakes. The original lyrics were inspired by the following Bible verse: The Lord is my strength and song. Psalm 118:14. This hymn may be better known by its Spanish title Mi Redentor es Cristo (O Jesus, my Redeemer) when used with lyrics translated by Edgar L. Maxwell. The original lyrics by F. E. Belden are shown below.Both the FLUTE and the VIOLIN get to lead with the melody at times making this a fun and equally challenging piece for both instruments while adding variety for the listeners. The FLUTE plays the melody for the first verse and then the two instruments alternate for the second verse. The VIOLIN leads with the melody for the third verse. The song begins in the key of C major for the first two verses, then transitions to the key of G major during the piano interlude before the final verse.Though notated with FLUTE on part 1 and VIOLIN on part 2, the ranges are also accessible for other combinations of C instruments such as 2 VIOLINS or 2 FLUTES. The range for each part is as follows: Part 1 (FLUTE) ~ G4 to B5; Part 2 (VIOLIN) ~ D4 to G5. For the violin on either part, all notes are playable in the first position making this piece an excellent choice for early intermediate string players. The title of this collection was inspired by the words found in Ephesians 5:19 (KJV) -- Speaking…in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord… This collection contains 10 hymns arranged for a one octave, 13-note chromatic scale Handbell choir with Piano accompaniment. For each song, the Piano provides an introduction then the Handbells play the melody and occasional 2-part harmony. Most songs include an optional repeat and second ending in case a longer song is desired. For each song, there is a combined score with both instruments (Handbells and Piano) on a grand staff plus two separate scores for the Handbells (one in standard format with black and white notes and the second with color-coded notes). The color-coded scores are enlarged so the colors are easier to distinguish and all sharps and flats are displayed (shown in the key of C) as reminders for beginning ringers. A color-coded note chart is also provided for each song which shows the Handbell notes used as well as the number of times each note is played. The note distribution is helpful when assigning notes to ringers. You may want to assign fewer notes to beginners or evenly distribute the bells between all ringers. As noted above, one of the Handbell scores for each song is color-coded for easier note reading for beginning ringers. These separate color-coded scores use the Chroma-Notes™ Colored Music System. If you have a set of Handbells with a different color scheme, Chroma-Notes Stick Ons can be purchased and applied so the Handbells match this color scheme. The number of ringers needed will vary depending on the skill level of the participants. For more advanced players, each person could be assigned two or three notes. For beginners, it is best to assign one or two notes to each person. Note assignment suggestions are included for each song and range from 4 to 9 ringers. These familiar hymns are perfect for small groups and especially beginning ringers. Most songs can be performed with as few as 5 people (4 ringers and 1 piano player). The Piano accompaniment is written for an intermediate player.Permission is granted to make up to 10 copies of each score. Here is an easy instrumental duet arrangement (for BOWED PSALTERY solo with PIANO accompaniment) of the familiar praise chorus I Have Decided to Follow Jesus. The psaltery part was designed for a beginning psaltery player and includes only half and quarter notes and no flats or sharps. The piano accompaniment is at the intermediate level. To assist those new to reading music notation, two solo parts are included: one is the standard music notation and includes the lyrics for sing along enjoyment. The second solo part is identical to the standard music but instead of lyrics, the note names are provided below each note (example A, B, C…). The psaltery plays the melody for the first verse and then adds harmony for the second verse. The song concludes with the psaltery playing melody for the final tag. The lyrics are from a traditional hymn but I've written new music for it in a minor key to match the sombre mood. This recording is a perfect accompaniment track for either a beautiful solo during a church service or for a congregation to sing along with, led by a singer who has heard the recording and knows the song. The mp3 has no lead singer but harmonies and a few descants in the background, particularly in the end, as they are really part of the music and will help to make it a really moving, powerful song at any church service. This rare hymn is wonderful for Ash Wednesday or any time during the Lenten Season or even Good Friday, contemplating Christ's betrayal by Peter and all who give in to sin. Although it is very solemn and touches on many points about repentance and Christ's suffering, it ends on an uplifting note and leads us on to stronger faith in Him.This song has a vocal range of Bb3-C5 and there is also sheet music in several keys available by searching Stacey Plays Hymns on this site.
