The song was written on a hot summer day in 1945 by Mel Torme and Bob Wells who were trying to cool down by composing a wintry lyric. Nat King Cole revisited the song several times in his career and it has also been recorded by just about every noteworthy popular artist since, from Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Peggy Lee, Doris Day, Ella Fitzgerald, Paul McCartney to The Jacksons, and many more. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Oboe. The lyrics we know and love were added much later by German composer Ernst Anschütz in 1824. The lyrics were originally a homage to the fir tree, using the evergreen foliage as a metaphor for constancy and loyalty. The association with Christmas appeared later in the nineteenth century.With a performance time of three minutes and a half minutes, this version of O Christmas Tree is perfect for seasonal celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal.
