A perfect hymn for funerals or a contemplative autumn service, reminding us of how swiftly life passes, just like the autumn leaves which are so soon gone. The original hymn was very beautiful but I thought a minor setting would be more fitting for the solemn lyrics, so I wrote an entirely new melody and choral arrangement, which can be found on all streaming platforms and Youtube, where lyric videos of this and other songs are readily available for church or personal use. All September and October long I've been going back to this song myself, as it captures the rich beauty and yet sadness of the autumn season, and somehow brings comfort amidst the fast-changing seasons of the earth and of our lives. It has been covered by many jazz and blues artists. The first recording, by Nat King Cole in 1953, achieved some popularity but was not among that year's top 20 songs. It was Bobby Darin's version in his 1959 album That's All that introduced the song to a wider audience. The song is part of the Great American Songbook, and Alec Wilder included it in his book American Popular Song:.

The melody is based on the song When Johnny Comes Marching Home. The song presents an image of cowboy hell - riders who are doomed to chase the Devil's cattle for all eternity.

First released in 1991 by the Marcy Brothers with the title Don't Tell My Heart, it was later recorded by American singer and actor Billy Ray Cyrus. The song is Cyrus's debut single and signature song. It became a crossover hit on pop and country radio, peaking at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the Hot Country Songs chart, becoming the first country single to be certified platinum. The music video for the song led to the explosion of the line dance into the mainstream. The song is considered by some as one of the worst songs of all time, featuring at No. 2 on VH1 and Blender's list of the 50 Most Awesomely Bad Songs Ever. However, it later became a cult classic.

Tom Dooley is a traditional North Carolina folk song based on the 1866 murder of a woman named Laura Foster in Wilkes County, North Carolina by Tom Dula (whose name in the local dialect was pronounced Dooley). One of the more famous murder ballads, a popular hit version recorded in 1958 by The Kingston Trio reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. The song was selected as one of the American Songs of the Century by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the National Endowment for the Arts, and Scholastic Inc. Members of the Western Writers of America chose it as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time.

Originally titled “See How Brown Autumn Spreads the Fieldsâ€, this song is so rare that I couldn’t find any music for it online, and therefore wrote a new melody and accompaniment for it that captures the the solemnity and even anguish of the lyrics. It’s one of the songs of harvest off of my album entitled “Hymns of Autumnâ€, but doesn’t talk about harvest in the traditional sense we normally sing about these days.Not many talk about the judgement of God in today’s church, and this hymn will send chills down the spine of the most devout believer as we realize the full spectrum of God's character, including His wrath and power on Judgement Day. I found this in an old hymnal that was so old that the “Sâ€s were still written as “Fâ€s, and I had to squint to read it while learning to sing for this recording. I hope this ancient and powerful hymn finds a place to minister to today's church and believers around the world, perhaps after a sermon on God’s judgement, or for a Lent or Advent service about repentance and turning to God, both individually and as a nation.This version is in B Minor to match the original recording, and includes the chords for the whole song including the reharmonized verse with a different melody.Also available, by searching Stacey Plays Hymns and the song title on this site is the full piano vocal arrangement as played in the original recording.For other formats including large print, simplified, or extended choral harmony versions, please write me at staceyplayshymns@gmail.com and I'll be glad to make them especially for you. First, Larry Carlton on the left takes the lead in the high register with a clever use of chord tones, and David T. Walker, seated on the right from the third turn, develops a unique and chic phrase.　Marina's singing is free and uninhibited, but her phrasing is full of color as if she is speaking her feelings to the audience.
