Beverly Kenney recorded It's a Most Unusual Day in 1957 for her album Beverly Kenney sings for Playboys which is featured in a Lincoln automobile commercial for television as of late 2021. The original arrangement was in 3/4 time. This is a swing version.

One early recording of the song was notable in that it was Frank Sinatra's first solo recording (Bluebird 11463 in 1942). A review in Billboard called the recording a sparkling example of song with Sinatra's singing and Axel Stordahl's musical direction. Sinatra also made studio recordings of the song for Columbia records in 1947 and Capitol Records in 1957. On May 19, 2015, Bob Dylan sang it on the second-to-last episode of The Late Show with David Letterman.

In the film, it is heard during the opening credits and later sung by Art Jarrett and chorus, and by Ann Sothern. The major hit at the time of introduction was by Eddy Duchin (vocal by Lew Sherwood). It was originally written in C major with a Moderately Bright tempo marking. As a jazz standard, it is usually played with a medium swing beat.

Stand by Your Man is a song recorded by American country music artist Tammy Wynette, co-written by Wynette and Billy Sherrill. It was released on September 20, 1968, as the first single and title track from the album Stand by Your Man. It proved to be the most successful record of Wynette's career, and is one of the most familiar songs in country music. The song was placed at number one on CMT's list of the Top 100 Country Music Songs. The song received some criticism during the late 1960s-early 1970s women's liberation movement, as feminist groups deemed it to be too conservative, while, for others, the song made Wynette a spokeswoman for working-class housewives experiencing marital disappointments and changing gender roles in the late 1960s. The song describes the Battle of New Orleans from the perspective of an American soldier; the song tells the tale of the battle with a light tone and provides a rather comical version of what actually happened at the battle. It has been recorded by many artists, but the singer most often associated with this song is Johnny Horton. His version scored number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1959 (see 1959 in music). Billboard ranked it as the No. 1 song for 1959, it was very popular with teenagers in the late 1950s/early 1960s in an era mostly dominated by rock and roll music. In addition to obvious references to the flag, it incorporates snippets of other popular songs, including one of his own. Cohan wrote it in 1906 for his stage musical George Washington, Jr. You're a Grand Old Flag quickly became the first song from a musical to sell over a million copies of sheet music. The original lyric for this perennial George M. Cohan favorite came, as Cohan later explained, from an encounter he had with a Civil War veteran who fought at Gettysburg. The two men found themselves next to each other and Cohan noticed the vet held a carefully folded but ragged old flag. The man reportedly then turned to Cohan and said, She's a grand old rag. Cohan thought it was a great line and originally named his tune You're a Grand Old Rag. So many groups and individuals objected to calling the flag a rag, however, that he gave 'em what they wanted and switched words, renaming the song You're a Grand Old Flag.

Frank Sinatra later recorded a version with modified lyrics. Some of the original lyrics penned by Martin were rejected before filming began. When presented with the original draft lyric, Garland, her co-star Tom Drake and director Vincente Minnelli criticized the song as depressing, and asked Martin to change the lyrics. Though he initially resisted, Martin made several changes to make the song more upbeat. In response to a publisher's request for a simpler song, Bart Howard wrote a cabaret ballad[which he titled In Other Words.
