IF (David Gates/Bread) Bb CLARINET and GUITAR DUETFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This simple but charming melody has a guitar accompaniment that uses a clever mixture of stopped and open strings to create a campanella effect. Many of the arrangements that are out there don’t have same notes as the original, and therefore some of the cleverness and simplicity of the original gets lost.This arrangement uses the same shapes as the original, and there’s guitar and tablature as well guitar notation only so that you can easily see that almost all the measures in the music have the same right hand fingering, despite the mix of open and stopped strings making the score look much more complex than it actually is!The original key makes for undue complexity in the clarinet part, so I have arranged the piece to be played by the guitar with a Capo on fret one, so that all the clever shapes can be retained, and the piece moved from 5 sharps in the Clarinet to no sharps. In both the score and the tablature the fingering and positions are marked relative to the Capo, so fret 5 means 5 frets up from the Capo (actually fret 6 on the guitar).I’ve produced two clarinet parts - one sits almost entirely in the chalumeau register, and one sits almost entirely in the clarion register. The span of the piece means there always has to be places where the clarinettist is crossing the break but these are few and far between, making the piece accessible to players from early intermediate upwards.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

This well known song - sometimes attributed to Dan Emmet (and his Virginia Minstrels) - has appeared with various lyrics, some less innocent than others. It is now usually played in all innocence by people of all ages and races, simply because the melody is so catchy. This set of variations includes a section in the minor mode (with the 6th and 7th varying from major to minor in the guitar), and a quirky section in 7 time in the dominant key. There is also (as often happens in my works) a cheeky English cadence from time to time. The pdf file contains score and separate parts The sound sample is an electronic preview.

I was originally going to call this tune Mellow Spring but it turns out that that's a childcare company (creche) somewhere in the USA! Oh well, maybe Laid back Bounce works better as a title.It is a laid back tune, with several variations accompanied by bluesy chords and a bouncy rhythm, which nevertheless keeps to 4/4 throughout. The key modulates occasionally from an E minor/major centre to a G major centre.It is performed here byBalázs Rumy clarinet and András Csáki guitar.
