This version is arranged as a duet for one Oboe and one Bassoon. Go Tell It on The Mountain is most often considered a Christmas Carol with the original lyrics,Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere;Go tell it on the mountain, that Jesus Christ is born.Nothing is known of its origins, but it first appeared in print in an 1865 collection of Spirituals. More recently, the lyrics have been adapted to support the struggle for human rights, most famously by Peter, Paul and Mary in 1963. Go Tell It on The Mountain is simply arranged in keys and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is played twice in swing style after a brief introduction; after a short breakdown the key changes and the melody is repeated at a slower tempo. The words were written by a local wine merchant and the music shortly after by composer Adolphe Adam. The popularity of this carol has spread far beyond France in recent times, with well-known versions recorded by artists as diverse as Nat King Cole, Andrea Bocelli and Mariah Carey.This version is arranged as a duet for Oboe and Bassoon. The linked youtube performance is the clarinet version of this duet.Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The melody is expressive and legato; both parts require dynamic contrast and the lower part in particular explores a wide range of the instrument.
