Life Gone By is a piece for oboe and bassoon which is suitable for those at beginner to early intermediate level.It mixes a simple arpeggio based accompaniment with a beautiful, developing melody line in the oboe which not only sounds pleasant but it is easy and quick to learn.This piece is approximately 1 minute 50 seconds long and so is a perfect length for a music interlude at an event or for a short recital in a school. This version is arranged as a duet for one Oboe and one Bassoon. The words and music of Swing Low, Sweet Chariot are credited to Wallis Willis, a Native American freedman from Oklahoma. A local minister transcribed the song in 1865 and within a few years it became a firm gospel favourite. In recent times Swing Low, Sweet Chariot has been adopted by the Civil Rights movement on one hand, and the England rugby team on the other. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot is simply arranged in keys and range best suited to the instruments. The hymn is played three and a half times, once as a ballad, then twice in a slow rock style, before returning to the ballad at the end. David McKeown #711953. Published by David McKeown (A0.1109579). The most popular of Scott Joplin’s piano rags during his lifetime, The Maple Leaf Rag was published in 1899. Joplin lived for a while in Sedalia, Missouri and the Maple Leaf Club in that town is thought to have provided the name for this composition. It provided Joplin with a steady income for the rest of his life, and while he requested that it be played at his funeral, his wife refused as she felt it inappropriate. It was the first track on Joshua Rifkin’s famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and, never waning in popularity, it has featured in hundreds of films. This duet version for one Oboe and one Bassoon includes all four sections of the original composition. The tempo in recorded versions varies widely between 72 and 126, so the marking of 92 is a suggestion only. The YouTube link is a full performance of the Clarinet version of this arrangement. Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around four minutes. However, King never intended to record the song himself. The story goes he had some studio time left over after a session and the producer asked him if he had any other songs they could put on tape. When King sat at the piano and performed Stand by Me, the producer recognised a huge hit in the making. This version is arranged as a duet for one Oboe and Bassoon.Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around three minutes. Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with ensemble skills and expressive playing. There are some complex syncopated rhythms in the melody part and the challenge will be to tie these expressively to the repeating bass pattern which is present throughout.
