It’s Been a Long Long Time is best known to modern audiences as the song at the end Avengers: Endgame, where Steve Rogers, after seventy years, finally gets to dance with Peggy Carter. The song of course, is much older. Two versions of It’s Been a Long Long Time topped the charts in late 1945, and as US servicemen returned from Europe and the Pacific, it perfectly caught the mood of the times. One version was by Bing Crosby, and the other by the Harry James Orchestra featuring Kitty Kallen on vocals. It is the latter version that is heard in Endgame and the one that forms the basis of this arrangement.Musicians at an intermediate standard will find It’s Been a Long Long Time ideal for formal and informal concert performances. with both parts enjoying plenty of melodic interest. Although it was a big sheet music seller at the time, it was Perry Como’s 1951 recording that turned it into a major hit. The simple harmony and melody have made this a perennial favourite with everyone from Sinatra to the Jacksons, Maria Carey and Bruce Springsteen. This version borrows from the swinging jazz style of various Sinatra recordings and is arranged as a duet for one Oboe and one Bassoon.Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal Christmas performances. There are syncopated swing rhythms and some less familiar accidentals. The overall performance time is around two and a half minutes. This version is arranged as a duet for one Oboe and one Bassoon. The words and music of Swing Low, Sweet Chariot are credited to Wallis Willis, a Native American freedman from Oklahoma. A local minister transcribed the song in 1865 and within a few years it became a firm gospel favourite. In recent times Swing Low, Sweet Chariot has been adopted by the Civil Rights movement on one hand, and the England rugby team on the other. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot is simply arranged in keys and range best suited to the instruments. The hymn is played three and a half times, once as a ballad, then twice in a slow rock style, before returning to the ballad at the end. Robert Schumann (1810 – 1856) was an influential German music critic and composer who was troubled by mental health issues for much of his life. Schumann’s enthusiasm for music was evident at an early age but he was discouraged from pursuing this as a career and encouraged towards the law instead. Ultimately, music won out and Schumann began studying piano with Friedrich Wieck, whose daughter Clara was later to become Schumann’s wife. After damage to one hand affected his playing ability, Schumann turned his attention to musicology and composition. Träumerei (Dreaming) has been described as one of the most famous piano works ever written. It is one of a collection of short pieces, entitled Kinderscenen (Scenes from Childhood) written in 1838. This arrangement, for double reed duo of oboe and bassoon, would make a charming addition to a recital programme.

It remains the biggest hit of her career with 25 million sales and a seasonal return to the charts every year. This version is faithful to the swinging rock’n’roll style of the original and includes a simple transcription of Boots Randolph’s famous sax solo. It is arranged as a duet for one Oboe and one Bassoon. Musicians at an early intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal Christmas performances. There are some simple syncopated swing rhythms and a few accidentals accidentals. The overall performance time is around two and a half minutes.
