Published by David McKeown (A0.588803). Huapango de Hannah is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Trumpet. The Huapango is a traditional Mexican style of music and dance, often mixing triple and duple metres. It is played on violin, accordion, and local 5-string variants of the guitar such as the vihuela, huapanguera and jarana. The Huapango rhythm famously inspired the song America in Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story.If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The mixed metres, alternating between 6/8 and 3/4, will present a rhythmic challenge, while following the precise articulation in the score will help convey the dance style of the Huapango. Huapango de Hannah has a performance time of around two minutes. Stand by Me was originally released by the co-writer Ben E King in 1960 and is the sixth highest royalty earning song of all time.  However, King never intended to record the song himself. The story goes he had some studio time left over after a session and the producer asked him if he had any other songs they could put on tape. When King sat at the piano and performed Stand by Me, the producer recognised a huge hit in the making. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Trumpet. Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around three minutes. Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with ensemble skills and expressive playing. It was chiefly written and sung by John Lennon, who claimed it was his first serious attempt at personal song-writing. The song features a baroque style piano solo by George Martin. The tempo was too fast for him to perform it, so he played it at half tempo and layer doubled the tape speed.
