This is a transcription for trombone ensemble of the complete William Tell Overture, written by Gioacchino Rossini, dedicated to the Szeged Trombone Ensemble (SETREN) and further arranged for the Eastman Trombone Choir. In reimagining the work for trombone octet, American composer P. F. Strohm has kept the piece in the original orchestral keys, and retained all the flourish and drama of the original work. The opening Dawn and Storm, the lovely Pastorale, and the touchstone Finale are all there. This tour de force work comes in two different versions, one for eight players (as arranged for SETREN), and this one for large ensembles of 16 or more players (as arranged for the Eastman Trombone Choir). Both versions have eight parts, and are intended for trombone ensembles with the highest levels of technique and musicianship. Advanced level of difficulty, with a performance time of 11:45. Gabriel Fauré finished composing his Requiem, Op. 48 in 1890. Not a religious person himself, his music is based on a very human feeling of faith and eternal rest. The overriding feelings when listening to this glorious work are: peace, contentment, beauty and eternity.Ed Hayes and Frank Harmantas have beautifully arranged the Agnus Dei movement. It is about 5 minutes in length for 6-part Trombone Ensemble of advanced level performers.Hayes and Harmantas have arranged other movements from the Fauré Requiem for the same sized ensemble.

Seldom do the parts peak at the same time. This creates a lot of motion in the lines, thus a lot of interest!

Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792066). Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor BWV 565 is possibly the most famous work in the organ repertoire. It was written as early as 1704 while the composer was in his teens, which could explain some of its unusual features. It first appeared in publication in 1833 by way of Felix Mendelssohn. The first appearance of this work as a transcription and recording for brass came in 1979 by Frederick Mills and the Canadian Brass, becoming an iconic work in the ensemble's repertoire. Ralph Sauer has had a great deal of success with his transcriptions of Bach's works. This work of about 9 minutes in length for 8-part Trombone Ensemble of advanced performers is brilliantly thought out and can be the cornerstone of a concert program.

Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792083). Bach's Fantasia in G BWV 572 was most likely composed before 1712 and was originally for Organ. It survives thanks to his students who transcribed many of his works during the years before 1723. The original work is in three movements, however in this setting Mr. Sauer has used the Grave central movement which is slow, dense and serious. In this work Bach departs from his previous style of writing music that is interchangeable between the Organ and Harpsichord. Mr. Sauer has done a masterful job of scoring this 5 voice work for an eight-part Trombone Ensemble of moderately advanced performers.
