Published by Grant Horsley (A0.1138249). Aria is scored for 4 C Flutes, Alto and Bass Flute. This version is in F major- also a D major version is available. It is a very restful melodic piece based on a single motif heard in bar 1. Written in the key of F major the piece is very hymn -like in design- with long notes and chords but has some unusual harmonies. The searing theme is stated then repeated with variation in texture. The theme is then developed using the rhythmic motif in the beginning climaxing in G major briefly before calmly returning to F major to repeat again. On this repeat more variation and articulation takes place before a restful conclusion. I've tried to keep all parts interesting. The full score is 11 pages and parts are 3 pages each- it is roughly 5 mins 30 in length. I have set it to intermediate level but an early intermediate should be ok with some of the parts. Waltz of the Harlequins is an original piece- The Harlequin is the best-known of the comic servant characters from the Italian commedia dell'arte- popularised in Paris in the 16thc. The Harlequin is characterized by his checkered costume. Their role is that of a light-hearted, nimble, and astute servant, Harlequin inherits his physical agility and his trickster qualities, as well as his name, from a mischievous devil character in medieval passion plays. This concert piece written in waltz time (almost 1 in a bar)is playful and light, and represents the characters escapades. It is in ternary for in Concert E minor with the middle section in C major before returning to the opening them and coda. (Other flute choir versions are also available) It is a descriptive exciting piece, and the intention was to make it a dramatic and mysterious in style- with a film -like storyline flowing through it. It has a calm intro going into a heavily syncopated driving 4 as the main theme punctuated by a heavy accented ostinato figure to add tension. The middle section is calmer and more relaxed where elements of the 1st theme appear in fragmented form. The intro returns once again before returning to the main theme which has slight modifications-extra accents etc, and the piece ends with the recurring stabs heard earlier before flourishing out.The ranges of the flutes are between one and a half octaves and 2 octaves depending on the part. Set at intermediate level but the full score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability.It runs at4 Mins 35 in length. Unlike the gargoyle, which serves to drain water off the roof through its mouth. The theory behind hunky punks and grotesques in general, was that churches were designed to reflect the balance between good and evil, reminding worshippers of the narrow path leading through life. As a result, for every saint or animal that was intended to signify purity and ‘goodness’, there was also an ugly creature to signify evil and ‘badness’.Scored for six C Flutes, this piece is in concert D minor and begins with a medieval type of fanfare which occurs throughout. What follows is a haunting theme with lots of flattened 5ths and several discords to represent the uncomfortable nature of this statue. The staccato and accent direction in most of the piece gives the impression of walking on eggshells not knowing what lies around the corner! Then a brief legato section of the fanfare appears to provide a calmer atmosphere before eventually returning to the main theme and big ending. It is a very romantic lyrical waltz in concert D major- with two phrases in the middle passing through F major and A major before returning to D major. The rhythm is very simple and the highest note is played by flute 1 which has top A once. The whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.1226298). Varadero is a modern Cha-Cha. The name is a city in Cuba- the country the Cha- Cha originated.Varadero is in concert G minor and is scored for Six C Flutes. It is essentially in ternary form, however there are two different sections in the middle before returning to the opening and coda. There is plenty of interest in all parts- the range is Low C to the the highest note being top G so not too high, and the rhythmic off-beats play the largest part in this style. Hence it has been placed at Intermediate but the full score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability. It is 3 mins 20 in length.I wanted to do something a little different for flute choirs so it could be useful in a variety of contexts- concert, contests, recital, productions, shows encore piece etc.Price is for the full score and all parts.There is another flute choir version available which has 4 C flutes, Alto and Bass, also there is a Clarinet choir version.
