Published by JMS Composer (A0.749400). Petrichor is the scientific name given to the earthy smell of rain coming into contact with the ground. The work starts with the image of the rain just beginning to occur, with finger snaps, leg slaps, and the sound of palms rubbing together simulating the rain fall. The music starts at a slow tempo and increases over the length of the piece as the downpour accelerates. By the end, one might even imagine walking out onto a porch to enjoy watching the rain continue to fall, as it offers up even a moment of peace.From a rehearsal standpoint, Petrichor is not technically demanding. It focuses on the patterns that occur during rainfall, using them to help build towards the exciting conclusion. Working each pattern independently before bringing them together is very helpful, as it will help lock in the mix of rhythms. The opening does not need to feel rushed and should be allowed to breathe, and each increase in the tempo should not be telegraphed, but should flow from the previous tempo. The ending combines straight eighths and sixteenths with a running triplet pattern between them; the triplet pattern should feel like it sits on top of everything else, almost floating along like a cloud.This was a pleasure to compose, and I hope you enjoy rehearsing and performing Petrichor.

This marvelous arrangement of the March from Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's extremely popular, The Nutcracker Suite, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts and recitals but would be most appropriate during the Holiday season. This selection has been arranged to keep all of the intensity and excitement of the original composition and is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (43 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.The Nutcracker is an 1892 two-act ballet with a score by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It has enjoyed enormous popularity since the late 1960's and is performed by countless ballet companies, primarily during the Christmas season, especially in North America. Tchaikovsky's score has become one of his most famous compositions. Some critics have called it astonishingly rich in detailed inspiration and from beginning to end, beautiful, melodious, original and characteristic. The ballet's first complete performance outside Russia took place in England in 1934. The first complete United States performance was on December 24, 1944, by the San Francisco Ballet. It was such an enormous success that the San Francisco Ballet has presented The Nutcracker every Christmas Eve and throughout the winter season, debuting new productions in 1944, 1954, 1967 and 2004. In Salt Lake City, it has been performed every year since 1963. The New York City Ballet gave its first annual performance in 1954. In addition to annual live stagings of the work, many productions have also been televised or released on home video.The Nutcracker continues to be one of Tchaikovsky's most popular compositions and contains some of his most memorable works. Tchaikovsky made a selection of eight of the numbers from the ballet before the ballet's December 1892 premiere, forming The Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71a, and is intended for concert performance. The suite was first performed, under the composer's direction, on March 19, 1892. The suite became instantly popular with almost every number encored at its premiere.Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could also have the opportunity to play some of these wonderful compositions, originally scored for a full orchestra, and has arranged two of the selections, the popular March and the Russian Dance for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. So, in addition to this version of the March for a Flute Octet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection for various Quintets and Octets and are readily available. If you should decide to purchase this arrangement of the March, I would highly encourage you to also consider purchasing the arrangement of the Russian Dance as well. Scheduling the March followed by the Russian Dance would be a very satisfying addition to any concert or recital. Please take the time to look for other versions of these compositions. You may find something else that might also suit your needs.I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as there are numerous selections in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.The Nutcracker is an 1892 two-act ballet with a score by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It has enjoyed enormous popularity since the late 1960's and is performed by countless ballet companies, primarily during the Christmas season, especially in North America. Tchaikovsky's score has become one of his most famous compositions. Some critics have called it astonishingly rich in detailed inspiration and from beginning to end, beautiful, melodious, original and characteristic. The ballet's first complete performance outside Russia took place in England in 1934. The first complete United States performance was on December 24, 1944, by the San Francisco Ballet. It was such an enormous success that the San Francisco Ballet has presented The Nutcracker every Christmas Eve and throughout the winter season, debuting new productions in 1944, 1954, 1967 and 2004. In Salt Lake City, it has been performed every year since 1963. The New York City Ballet gave its first annual performance in 1954. In addition to annual live stagings of the work, many productions have also been televised or released on home video.The Nutcracker continues to be one of Tchaikovsky's most popular compositions and contains some of his most memorable works. Tchaikovsky made a selection of eight of the numbers from the ballet before the ballet's December 1892 premiere, forming The Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71a, and is intended for concert performance. The suite was first performed, under the composer's direction, on March 19, 1892. The suite became instantly popular with almost every number encored at its premiere.Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could also have the opportunity to play some of these wonderful compositions, originally scored for a full orchestra, and has arranged two of the selections, the popular March and the Russian Dance, one of the character dances, based on the Russian and Ukrainian folk dance, Trepak, for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. So, in addition to this version of the Russian Dance, for a Flute Octet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection for various Quintets and Octets and are readily available. If you should decide to purchase this arrangement of the Russian Dance, I would highly encourage you to also consider purchasing the arrangement of the March as well. Avatar: The Way of Water, is the long-awaited sequel to the award-winning film from 2009.  The soundtrack for the new film was written by Simon Franglen, who originally wrote 5 hours of music to cover any and all situations in the almost 3-hour movie.The Songcord is a beautiful song that is heard twice in the film – at the beginning and at the end.  A songcord is a mnemonic device used by the Na’vi that assists them in storytelling.  In this song, Neytiri is thanking Eywa – the Great Mother - for her family.This arrangement is scored for flute choir – piccolo with 4 C, alto, bass, and contrabass flutes.  There is an optional cello part that doubles the contrabass that can be played by any bass clef C instrument in a similar range.One of the most important parts of this piece is what helps create the mood, which is where the part called “Shimmer†comes in.  In an interview, Simon Franglen said that an important part of the music is the feeling of light, and he achieved that by including shimmering sounds into his tunes.  The “Shimmer†part can be played by hanging a few keys (house keys, car keys, etc.) that have different pitches on short lengths of string.  Use a small metal or wooden object to lightly hit the keys to create little “dingsâ€. You can also use wind chimes, a little xylophone, bells, etc.  The idea is to create a magical mood without overpowering the music.  Play this part wherever there is a note in the measure. Always keep the melody prominent.  The piccolo should always be played softly - at the equivalent volume of the group’s piano.  Play this slowly and freely, with a lot of rubato.  Duration: 3.75 minutes.

It is a very restful melodic piece based on a single motif heard in bar 1. Written in the key of F major the piece is very hymn -like in design- with long notes and chords but has some unusual harmonies. The searing theme is stated then repeated with variation in texture. The theme is then developed using the rhythmic motif in the beginning climaxing in G major briefly before calmly returning to F major to repeat again. On this repeat more variation and articulation takes place before a restful conclusion. I've tried to keep all parts interesting. The full score is 11 pages and parts are 3 pages each- it is roughly 5 mins 30 in length. I have set it to intermediate level but an early intermediate should be ok with some of the parts. The whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability. Price is for the full score and all parts. Piccolo, 2 flutes, flute 3/alto flute, alto flute, bass flute, contrabass flute. A new flute choir piece from established composer Keiron Anderson. To begin with, high staccato riffs on the top three parts create the impression of twinkling stars while the lower parts have a more stately tune below them. This alternates with semiquavers in cannon that race up and down the instruments like fireworks exploding. The next section continues the bustling feel of the music by using many time signature changes to keep the music on edge and moving forwards. The music then returns to the ideas of the first section before racing towards the most exciting conclusion. Covering pretty much the whole range of the instruments (particularly the lower parts) and with some very complex time signatures to handle, this is one for the expert flute choirs to really get their teeth into! Approximately grade 6 standard upwards.
