The Jester was a member of the household of a nobleman or a monarch employed to entertain guests during royal court. Jesters were also traveling performers who entertained common folk at fairs and town markets, and the discipline continues into the modern day, where jesters perform at historical-themed events. This piece is in ternary form.The outer sections are to represent the general clowning around and playing pranks as a mischievous Jester does. The middle section by contrast is more lyrical to demonstrate a softer side to the personality, however this quickly transcends back to the final section where jokes, pranks and laughs have their way!It should be performed very briskly and lightly to capture the overall feel of the piece. The range in total is two and a half octaves and it is 4.00 minutes in length- Set at Intermediate level, but lots of areas are less so. The whole score is on here for you to assess suitability Price is for the full score and all parts.A great addition to the repertoire.

Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring from Bach's Cantata 147, arranged for flute choir: piccolo, 3 flutes, alto flute, bass flute, double contrabass flute (optional) and cello (optional). Score: 19 pg. Parts: 2 pg. Duration with optional repeat: 7:36 Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring Bach composed a cantata called Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben. Though it is the 32nd cantata, it is listed as BWV 147. Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring is the 10th movement of the cantata. It was customary to use previous melodies as a basis for a new work - a practice called Cantus prius factus. So, the chorale melody for this piece is a historic tune called Werde munter, mein Gemüthe. Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring is customarily performed at weddings, and during major church seasons such as Easter and Christmas. Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with the instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and certainly the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy, though, are the St. John Passion, and certainly the Christmas Oratorio.  History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he, therefore gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer.  Style It seems like Bach created a fascinating new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, in addition to his complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development, his sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival        Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV.

The cantata's title translates The lively hunt is all my heart's desire, and it is also known as the Hunting Cantata. Like the same composer´s Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, it is frequently played at weddings.[1] However, it was originally written for a birthday celebration, that of Christian, Duke of SaxeWeissenfels. Bach was based at the nearby court of Weimar, and musicians from both courts appear to have joined together in the first performance in Weißenfels. Bach is known to have used the music again for other celebrations, but it remained unpublished until after his death. Cascades is a three-movement composition for flute choir that represents both the waterfall definition of the word and the mountain range in the Pacific Northwest. The first movement represents Multnomah Falls, the tallest waterfall in Oregon. It drops 635 feet in two tiers. The music has cascading musical figures as well as sense of power and beauty. Mt. Hood is the inspiration for second movement. Standing at 11,249 feet above sea level, this majestic mountain is dramatically visible from the valley floor and is snow covered most of the year. The music of this movement depicts the rising from the valley floor with its low to high orchestration. The almost symmetrical shape is represented by descending lines after the two climaxes.The third movement is a reminder of the relatively youngness of the Cascade mountain range. In 1980, Mt. St. Helens erupted, causing catastrophic damage to the surrounding area and loss of lives. What remains of this former symmetrical mountain is a large crater as a reminder of the volatile nature of the Cascade Range. The music of this movement is filled with tension, from the seismic tremors of the first part to the eruption itself in the second part. A final cascade, this time depicting lava flow rather than a waterfall, brings both the movement and the composition to a close.

Scored for 2 C, alto, and bass flute. If your choir has a contrabass flute, it can double the bass part. There is an optional cello part that doubles the bass an octave lower. Duration: 2.5 minutes.
