Juan MarÃa Solare León protegiendo a su crÃa (Lion protecting its cub) This short minimalist prelude for piano was composed in Bremen on 9 and 10 November 2021. It is minimalist in the aesthetic sense of the word: few elements, many repetitions, minimal variations. But not in the historical sense: traditional minimalism abounds in consonance, in quiet sonorities; this prelude is rather arid, not particularly consonant, and only a step away from irritation or fury. The work emerged as an elaboration of an improvisation for the Digitaler Adventskalender 2021 project of the Landesmusikrat Bremen. And the title is inspired by the doll of a lion with its cub that was given to me many years ago. This complements an allusion to the unique minimalism of Charlemagne Palestine, who tends to play his concerts surrounded by stuffed animals. Of course, the doll's innocent appearance is deceptive. Words From a Clean Soul - by Juan MarÃa SolareThe expression clean soul conveys the idea of a soul that was dirty and got cleaned. I intentionally avoided the more usual pure soul. This neo-classical piano prelude was composed in Bremen, Germany, on 19 April 2020. The composer's recording of this piece is included in the compilation album Dream Chasers vol 2 of the label Yellow Rose Records (released on 6 November 2020). The track was placed at the top, since, in the words of the label's manager, Eldar Ibrahimovic, Your song was just too nice and very representative of our idea, so we had no choice but to put it up first. Juan MarÃa Solare: On the Concept of Limit (seven piano pieces) In this work crystallises an idea that has been haunting me for some time: that the titles of the individual pieces should read like lines of a poem. 1) Up to a Certain Point 2) Nothing Gets Lost 3) Yet All Will Be Forgotten 4) At the End of the Day 5) Even the Sky Has a Limit 6) However, However 7) Only the Present Has No Limits There is a fancy order of keys in this cycle: in ascending thirds (both major and minor but without a regularity). Indirectly, this is a structural quotation of Beethoven's variations Opus 34 (only that he chose a descending order of keys). Additionally, you will find three times 4/4 time signature and three times 3/4, and one instance of 5/8 (asymmetrically arranged). 1) C major (4/4) 2) E major (3/4) 3) G minor (4/4) 4) B major (4/4) 5) D minor (5/8) 6) F minor (3/4) 7) A major (3/4) The seventh and last piece is dedicated to Martina Lindner. Meraki is a word that modern Greeks often use to describe what happens when you leave a piece of yourself (your soul, creativity, or love) in your work. When you love doing something, anything, so much that you put something of yourself into it. Meraki means to do something with passion, with absolute devotion, with undivided attention. Meraki is derived from the Turkish Merak (Labor of love, to do something with pleasure). Usually applied to tasks, usually, creative or artistic tasks, but can be applied to any task at all. Lumokinesis (4:00). Lumokinesis is the ability to manipulate and control the element light at will. Kenopsia (4:00). Kenopsia is the eerie atmosphere of a place usually full of peple, but now abandoned and calm. Ataraxia (4:30). Tranquility, imperturbability, absence of wishes or fears. Petricor (3:30). Petrichor is the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil. Exulansis (3:45). The tendency to stop talking of one's experiences because people cannot reate to them.

Once Upon a Dream - a legendary song from the Disney film 'Sleeping Beauty' in an instrumental piano version by Juan MarÃa Solare. The original melody was composed by the classical composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and adapted for the film a century later. The present version, in a way, restores the music to the purely instrumental character of Tchaikovsky's original: a melodic waltz for piano. Juan MarÃa SolareEvaporación detenida (Stopped evaporation)for toy pianoThis miniature presents, through sound, two opposing worlds. The volatile, the stable. The movement and the static. The flurries and the columns. The fragment of the poem (by Javier Adúriz) that heads this work underlines the impossibility – and the wish – of opposing the ephemeral, of contradicting transience. Technically, this musical work is based on a harmonic field of semitone + minor third + whole tone, which actually includes all intervals from semitone to tritone. I call this harmonic field 'modo Verdi' in my notes, because he uses it (as scala enigmatica) in his Quattro Pezzi Sacri. Although it is conceived for toy piano, I do not object to this work being played on other keyboard instruments, nor to its being adapted for various instrumental duets. Evaporación detenida (Stopped evaporation or Evaporation at standstill) was composed in Bremen on October 30, 2021 in the framework of an invitation by the US-American keyboardist David Bohn (a native of Wisconsin), to whom it is dedicated. Therefore, 'Go Tell it on the Mountain' is a Christmas carol that celebrates the Nativity of Jesus, but sometimes refers implicitly to the civil rights struggle. But we have all probably had the experience that a look can convey a lot of expressiveness. Musically this piece is deceptively simple. The formal structure is deliberately simple because it has to be robust in order to support a - to a certain extent - complex harmony. The melody is also apparently simple - but when you start to analyze it motivically, it gives a lot more of itself than you would have believed.This piece will be part of the album Every Piano Has a Story. (To say of a lullaby that it is simple is quite foreseeable: the striking thing would be a complex lullaby.)The unspoken interlocutor, the you alluded to, can be anyone: son, lover, pet ... but also a sleeping audience whom you try to shake with your harangue, informing them of what they have just lost, of what happened while they were distracted.Technically, it is a simple deconstruction or recontextualization of the famous Wiegenlied by Johannes Brahms. Hence the categorization of postmodern, due to the use of the camouflaged quotation as an essential structuring device (although a well-prepared musicologist should better not read this).Character: gentle andante (walking). About the music Both pieces of this diptych are miniatures with a structure quite similar to each of the pieces of the Album für die Jugend Opus 68 by Robert Schumann. The melodies are strongly rooted in Japanese music (particularly obvious in the second piece). Aesthetically, this is neoclassical music (a quite broad concept nowadays). Fans of Erik Satie, Ludovico Einaudi or Joep Beving will possibly feel at home. Both pieces were composed on 6 June 2020 (the first one with my daughter Laura sleeping on my breast). Because… where is the issue with weeping? The first step is to accept that pain exists. Nobody has the moral authority to deny you the possibility of crying. Weeping is not a shame or a disgrace. Besides, only he who weeps is credible when he laughs. By the way, these words are sometimes attributed to Confucius. I leave to you the task of determining whether Jacobowski borrowed this thought from him.
