After Mozart, I discovered Chopin and have since been inspired and awed by his Ballades, a style, like many others, that is not given enough attention. This is my very first composition from back in early 2007 and is riddled with my early style of tonic and dominant reliance. The piece is half fantasia and half Ballade as many sections are designed to be played almost ad lib. as dictated by the 'molto rit'.

But given the beauty of her pieces, it is worth learning this piece and the others that I will post later, so that you can delight your audience.

His name is sometimes seen as Artsibushev, Artsybuchev, Artzibushev, Artzybushev, Artchibousheff, Arcybusev, etc.Artsybushev was born at Tsarskoye Selo in 1858. His legal studies were at the Imperial School of Jurisprudence in Saint Petersburg, after which he practised in St Petersburg as an attorney. He also dabbled in music composition, and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov gave him private lessons in music theory after Mily Balakirev said his works showed some promise.He also became acquainted with the music publisher Mitrofan Belyayev and participated in his regular weekly gatherings called Fridays (Vendredis). To mark these occasions, a group of 10 composers including Artsybushev collaborated on a 16-part suite for string quartet, called Les Vendredis. His contribution was a Serenade in A major. He also collaborated with others on Variations on a Russian Theme, in versions for both string quartet and orchestra.He was a member of the St Petersburg City Council. After Belyayev's death in 1903 he became chairman of the board of the Belyayev publishing house, in which capacity he had significant dealings with Alexander Scriabin. From 1908 to 1917 he was President of his city's branch of the Russian Musical Society, and later succeeded Rimsky-Korsakov as President of the Board of Trustees for the Society for the Encouragement of Russian Musicians.In 1920 he moved to Paris and became a director of the Belyayev publishing house there. David Fraserâ??s third composition is â??Sonata No.1 Gothicâ??, dedicated to Sergei Prokofiev, not as a representation of this genre of music, but in form. Specifically, Fraser uses a similar structure in Movement 1, starting at Measure 72 marked â??più mosso e con abbandonoâ?, to the notoriously difficult â??colossaleâ? section of Prokofievâ??s â??Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 16â??, Movement 1. The sonataâ??s Movement 3 also follows a structure parallel to Movement 4 of Prokofievâ??s aforementioned piano concerto, employing fiendishly challenging syncopated jumps in both hands. Written in ternary form, Movements 1 and 3 of Fraserâ??s sonata are in C minor; Movement 2 is in E-flat minor, instead of the expected relative or dominant key. This work has explosive sentiments of rage that elicit a sense of immensity and darkness, touching on the macabre yet maintaining an alluring nature. The inspiration for the second movement comes from the German fairy tale Hansel and Gretel by the Brothers Grimm. The music begins with Hansel and Gretel walking into the witchâ??s house made of gingerbread, cake, and candy. The children have a sense of unease and fright once they enter the house, which is demonstrated in the music by the eeriness and darkness of the harmonies. The term oscuro is found at the beginning of the music â?? this is the Italian word for dark. The repeat, which begins at measure 25, is marked sempre sotto voce which translates to always under the voice, meaning always in a hushed tonal quality and dynamic volume. This section represents the children trying to tip-toe out of the house without the witch taking notice. The repeat is almost identical to the beginning section, with the exception of measures 39 and 40 which have ties in the right hand; the similar measures 15 and 16 in the first section do not have these ties. The right-hand trills in measures 53 through 55 symbolize the children attempting to quietly turn a key to unlock the door, which would lead them to freedom.This is the full version of the Sonata, containing all three movements, and is the third piece from 'Hommages: Suite pour le Piano'. 39 pages.
