Similarly, I believe that there can be an uneasy disconnect in concert venues when listening to pre-recorded sound, especially as it begins to approximate the sounds of real, on-stage performers. Simulacrum explores this concept by intermingling both a live and pre-recorded piano into a singular texture. Blurring and obscuring the lines between what is human and what is digital, this work actively tasks the listener with reconciling the two aspects into a unified listening experience. They are naturally – on a superficial level – simpler, more cheerful, brighter and also more garish, drastic and playful than my previous composition, but my objective in these dances involving the protagonists of a circus is a simple but profound and omnipresent truth: there is a constant real danger that the tightrope walker will fall. On the subject of our childlike amazement as an observer: it is not our amazement which is false, but the fact that we adults think we are no longer allowed to feel this emotion! And although the tears of the sad clown are artificial, they are nevertheless highly realistic. The Zirkustänze are conceived as a cycle, but individual movements can also be performed separately, for example as encore pieces. These dances are dedicated in friendship to András Schiff. Raphaël Novarina is a French composer and Pianist born in Paris in 1980, that composes in a variety of musical styles and setting, but mainly focuses on contemporary classical piano. Novarina also manages a music label. Novarina has an extensive collection of albums. His Solo Piano series has over ten albums of original solo piano music. The style of each album varies, but Novarina’s compositional styles are always based in the rich European classical tradition of forms and harmonic and melodic developments. Each album contains solid playing and themed around various forms. For example, Solo Piano VIII, is comprised of ten Etudes. While Solo Piano VII is all Funeral Marches. Now Novarina is releasing Solo Piano X, which has a theme of suites. The album contains ten suites composed by Novarina. A suite, in Western classical music, is an ordered set of instrumental pieces. Originating in the late 14th century as a pairing of dance tunes and grew in scope to comprise up to five dances, sometimes with a prelude. The separate movements were often thematically and tonally linked. Prelude 12 in Bb Minor Dorian from 24 Preludes for the Piano in Major and Minor Modes by composer Brian Golden  The creative concept in writing these preludes is to provide a link to past preludes written for the keyboard, and in particular to the works of J.S. Bach and Frederic Chopin, whose works stand as essential repertoire for any student of the piano.  Using Bach’s and Chopin’s examples, my goal was to compose in all twenty-four keys, yet offer my own variation on the progression of key signatures – Bach’s being a pattern of major to parallel minor progressing chromatically through all keys, and Chopin’s a pattern of major to relative minor keys progressing clockwise through the circle of fifths.  In order to expand my harmonic and melodic possibilities, I have included the modal keys rather than only the major and harmonic minor keys, and have chosen to work counterclockwise through the circle of fifths, which is a more natural harmonic progression.  Therefore, all major preludes resolve from one to another V-I, as well as do all the minor preludes.  While there are seven modal scales, I decided to leave out the locrian modes for the following reasons.  First, due to the diminished fifth, the locrian mode cannot be thought of as either major nor minor.  Second, the locrian mode did not have a relative key to pair with, since there were no other keys with the identical characteristic notes.  In creating the key architecture, I determined that there was only one solution to pairing major and relative minor scales based on a shared parent key and characteristic note - ionian/aolian, mixolydian/phrygian and lydian/dorian.  This specific order of modal scales is the only order that would enable composing in all twelve key signatures.  Finally, the inspiration for each prelude came from playing through several other preludes in the same keys - mostly by Bach and Chopin - and letting their themes and styles influence me in the writing of my own.YouTube Link https://youtu.be/xb4E0I-vJek.

Toccata in A Major, Op. 22 was composed for solo piano. This piece was intended for Three Blessings, Op. 14, which in itself was going to be a larger piece, but could not elaborate on the material at the time of writing the piece. Furthermore, I felt that it was better as its own piece. Toccata in A Major, Op. 22 revolves around a simple melody with the perpetual sixteenth-note ostinato motive, which is complicated with wider intervals and soft dynamics. The ostinato motive takes various forms but never loses motion, even gaining momentum as the tempo increases towards the end of the piece. Composed by Tyler J. Tarantella for the Boys, Op. 24 was written for solo piano and is dedicated to my nephews Braxton, Brayden, and Bryson. The overall mood is reminiscent of their energetic personalities with exception of the Bryson, the youngest nephew, who is under a year old at the time of composing this piece; the others are 2 and 4 years old respectively. The form of this piece is a rondo and one motive represents each of the boys with each motive becoming a little more subdued. On the other hand, the initial motive is the conglomerate of all three of their personalities, which returns often throughout the piece. At the end of the piece, the energy reaches a point where it is almost out of control, even clumsy, and ends with my middle nephew Brayden face-planting on the ground due to his clumsiness.Composed by Tyler J. Verbs is a set of 24 impressionistic preludes for piano left hand alone, composed by Kathleen RyanEach prelude evokes the energy and mood of its title verb. Thus, the preludes utilize a wide range of modern styles and harmonic languages.Wait - to be in readiness or expectation. These preludes hark back to earlier antecedents by Debussy, Rachmaninov, Chopin and J S Bach in their variety and appeal, creating an album rich in contrasts. Ryan’s composing style is eclectic, referencing jazz, contemporary classical, traditional classical, and American folk songs and hymns: Play, for example, is a vibrant anthem, redolent of sacred harp singing, while other Preludes are more contemplative, tender and wistful (Forgive, Bloom). Push is energetic and rumbling, suggesting bustling city life, Bounce scampers playfully around the keyboard with jazzy syncopations and colourful harmonies, and Tangle is redolent of some of Prokofiev’s more introspective ‘Visions Fugitives’. The project originated in 2006 when [Keith] Porter-Snell asked Ryan to create a set of twenty-four piano preludes for left hand only, one in each key. In her search for a unifying theme, Ryan settled on the idea of verbs, one for each prelude, because a verb conveys a distinct quality of energy and motion. ... Ryan’s eclectic composing style contains elements of jazz, contemporary classical, traditional classical, and her own vision that includes making the piano sing. ... It is hard to believe that these preludes are played with only one hand, as they are full, rich, and sound like they move all over the piano keyboard.
