This arrangement of St. Louis Blues is written as performed by piano artist, Liberace. He performed this on his t.v. show and record albums. The Saint Louis Blues (or St. Louis Blues) is a popular American song composed by W. C. Handy in the blues style and published in September 1914. It was one of the first blues songs to succeed as a pop song and remains a fundamental part of jazz musicians' repertoire. This short piece for solo piano is part of a collection of ten preludes written in Rome between 2008 and 2013. Like preludes 2 & 3, it was conceived in a romantic mood, tinged with longing and tenderness. In this case, I wanted to write a piece with a catchy theme, harmonically and formally (ABA') simple in order to make it appreciable at first listen. I fall in love (!) with this piece, especially when played by strings, and so I derived from it other pieces: Agnus Dei for SATB choir & string orchestra, Andante for string quartet and Simple Song for solo organ.

The song catered to a wartime nostalgia for songs about European cities following the Second World War Battle of France (which brought Paris under Nazi control), with A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square also proving popular.The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1941.
