My Variations on the hymn tune Gordon (My Jesus, I Love Thee) are intended for church pianists looking for interesting arrangements of hymns familiar to their congregations. The four variations in this set display increasing rhythmic complexity as one plays them from beginning to end, ranging from continuous streams of eighth notes to eighth-note triplets to sixteenths. The first, and simplest, variation can be played alone. Variations 2-4 are written as a continuous group, though they too can be played individually if desired, by adding a conclusive tonic note in the bass. For the most part the pitches of the hymn tune are presented without ornamentation, though there are occasional exceptions. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

Crystal is a three-movement vibraphone and piano duet (Adagio, Moderato, and Presto) centered around the suspended chord, which does not clearly define a major or a minor tonal world. Similar to Marginalia, Crystal relies on tonally ambiguous harmonies such as the second and seventh.It begins and ends with a dissonant, bell-like vibraphone idea, referencing chord clusters often used in Balinese Gamelan.Adagio employs a rhythmic canon between the vibraphone and the left and right hand piano parts. Parallel sevenths and cross-rhythms are the building blocks of this movement.Moderato uses a repeating rhythmic ostinato throughout the movement, which is first introduced by the vibraphone and then taken on by the piano.Presto opens with a folk-like melody in the vibraphone and then leads into a more lyrical, quartal melody. It uses the parallel sevenths and cross-rhythms found in the first movement. The coda basically repeats the piece’s introduction with slightly less dissonant vibraphone chords. Slow the tempo down to your skill level. 2. Change the key, allowing you the option of transposing the patterns into keys other than the written key. 3. Use the loop function to practice difficult measures repeatedly. 4. Use these patterns for ear training exercises by slowing the tempo down and looping a certain section repeatedly, try to play the correct notes using your ear rather than reading the music.
