This album follows the simple story of A Squirrel Named Whiskers. Whiskers is a curious but cautious little squirrel that lives in the woods and enjoys exploring new areas of the woods from time to time when he finishes collecting food for the day. This story follows Whiskers as he ventures out into an unknown part of the woods and happens to stumble across an old abandoned house which is surrounded by trees and bushes. There is no one to be seen or heard here and Whiskers can’t help but explore inside.I began writing this album with the track “And Carefully Crept Inside.” but I actually wasn’t planning on writing a full album at that point. I go into more detail in the individual track’s program note about it but it was the spark that led me to commit to writing a full album. I began composing other tracks for the music box to be part of the album and then I had an idea to make the titles into a story, but what would they be about? The music box is an enchanting and mysterious little instrument and is often associated with magic, fairies, and the forest which is what led me to decide to write the story about a Squirrel.I took some time to write out a short story and then created 10 titles that would fit the story. I continued to write the remaining tracks of the album now using the titles as inspiration to write the music which made it easy to create a certain mood and style. Writing this album was a great exercise in writing music that has a story behind it which something I always try to do when composing. I believe that every piece of music has a story behind it intentionally or unintentionally. I plan to continue to infuse a story in the music I write as it gives it much more meaning than a piece of music being written without a story in mind. I hope you enjoy listening to or practicing these pieces and have fun following along with whiskers on his journey into the unknown.

The brightest lights then invited the smaller ones to once again join in the dance, and together, all of the lights created a magical scene, a most enchanted color spiral, that can only be created by Christmas magic.Dawn had approached all too soon. One by one, the lights settled back onto the tree to rest for the day. One small light, however, had decided it couldn’t let go of the magnificent night just yet, and continued to do one final solo dance. Over 500 years ago Süleyman Çelebi, from the Great Mosque at Bursa, wrote the Mevlidi Sherif (then entitled Vesiletu’n-necat) so that Turks would have access to the magical, mystical story of their beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), which had previously only been available in Arabic. Over the centuries this epic poem has been recited and sung in Mosques and in homes; on countless occasions of rejoicing and sorrow, such as births, weddings, house blessings, graduations, and especially to celebrate the Night of Power and the Birthday (mawlid) of Muhammad (pbuh). Some consider it to be the most frequently recited poem in the world. In 1942, as an act of interfaith and goodwill, Mr. F. Lyman MacCallum, a Christian missionary who was born in Turkey to missionary parents, translated into English this epic poem and published it in a journal dedicated to promoting East/West understanding. This was a remarkable artistic feat as MacCallum stayed true to the traditional Turkish poetic meter, mathnawī of fâ’ilâtün fâ’ilâtün fâ’ilün, as well as holding fast to the authentic meaning of the original text. In 2015, Dr. Timuçin Çevikoğlu, from Ankara University in Turkey, discovered MacCallum’s English translation of this most beloved poem. With the intention to help those in the west better understand the very heart of Islam, he invited sacred music singer, Ms. CarolAnn Barrows from Maui, Hawaii, USA to be the first person to ever sing the Mevlidi Sherif in English. He asked her to compose music that would appeal to western sensibilities. Ms. Barrows interviewed many composers to assist her. It wasn’t until she heard from Mr. Taylor Kroff from Austin, Texas, U.S.A., that she knew she’d found the right person for the task. Using digital technology they were able to work together, even though thousand of miles apart. They amended and re-translated the text of the original English version of the poem and composed the Mevlidi Sherif Symphony ~ in English. The recording is now available online all over the world. This music was born out of our desire to help non-Muslims appreciate the love all Muslims have for their Prophet Muhammad (pbuh); to create greater understanding and peace among nations. We are not suggesting that anyone change their faith, but rather that greater world peace will be achieved by understanding and accepting the faith of others. We pray that this music will serve to remove the boundaries which divide different religious faiths by bringing to full light the underlying wisdom with which they are all united. The album is a personal collection of memories and landscapes of Casey growing up in the Blue Ridge Mountain region of Northern Virginia and a small farming community in rural Upstate New York. The songs are images and observations of Casey's personal experiences of autumn, particularly November. It was a common event between Casey and his older brother to try to capture fireflies in glass jars as the sun set. Being only 4 or 5 years old, you can imagine how magical it must have been for a young boy to see his brother catch these flying creatures in a jar and stare in wonder at how they lit up the night. Sometimes his brother let Casey carry the jar through the forrest before letting them go free. Sometimes Casey got lucky and caught his own and his brother then would exaggerate his level of skill and stealth and hunting technique to their parents on arriving home. It’s the first time Casey remembers feeling a sense of accomplishment. The magical wonder of creation and nature and the eternal bond between brothers – both so easily taken for granted and yet both so easily lost. Surely on Smith Mountain road, Lynchburg, Virginia, even now, those fireflies are putting on their show for free to an enraptured child. The song Chasing Fireflies is about this memory of Casey. Reviewers say that the nostalgic yet hopeful song perfectly captures the flying fireflies and the innocence of a time long since passed.

Cornus - A Fantasy Ballade for Piano, composed by Aris Antoniades.Cornus is the name of the forest that surrounds the Army Unit I was stationed at, during the first year of my military service back in my homeland, Cyprus. The magical sounds of nature and the myths surrounding this forest were what kept me company during many cold, endless nights of sentry guard duty. On such nights, I would often let my imagination soar, making up stories and music. It was during one of those moments of spontaneous inspiration that I came up with the opening motif for this piece.The piece tries to musically depict the different feelings a questing knight experiences when he sets off into the depths of the forest and back. Just like all typical chivalric romances, the hero discovers something remarkable while he travels - something that has the power to change him forever. Although by the end of the story the hero returns back to where he started, he is now a different person since the adventure forced him to undergo a catharsis.
