About the song and the arrangementThis is my solo piano arrangement of Let There Be Peace On Earth, one of the most powerful songs about peace ever written. I arranged it with the intermediate piano player in mind. Although is not particularly jazzy, it includes some jazz harmony and voicings. I think its beautiful melody benefits from clean voicings and an almost classical accompaniment style. Having said that, I included chord symbols so that jazz pianists can do their thing.I recommend to everyone who wants to learn it to also study the lyrics (who I didn't include with the sheet music, because it is after all a solo piano arrangement. Knowing the words will undoubtedly help with interpreting the music more adequately from an emotional point of view.About the technical aspects of this arrangementAlthough the arrangement sounds simple,  it poses several challenges. For example, it has a polyphonic element to it which requires the pianist to use the sustain pedal and make smart fingering choices. For this reason I included my suggestions for both. Please feel free to use your own.FeelThe arrangement is meant to be played very expressively. I suggest you vary the tempo and dynamics. Bringing out the melody is also very important.At last, I hope you will enjoy playing my arrangement and consider including it in your recitals. The call for peace is never a waste.

I use an Amazon Kindle with Mobile Sheets Pro and an Air Turn blue tooth foot pedal to practice and perform piano music. Mobile Sheets Pro imports music from Drop Box onto a Kindle tablet quickly and efficiently. For performers who use a different tablet, there are similar products available to provide tablet users the same functionality. These pieces have not been arranged, but most have been edited slightly, and have been formatted to fit screen size. For example, first and second endings are often removed and the repeated measures and endings written into the music so the performer can avoid having to go back to previous pages. These kinds of section repeats were invented to spare the composer’s time and the cost of extra paper and ink. But with a tablet the cost of paper and ink is irrelevant. Although there are a lot more page turns with a 10 inch screen compared with letter size pages, the readability of the music (due to the backlighting on the tablet) and the portability of the music (travelling with a small tablet instead of oversized books or portfolios of sheet music) easily makes up for the extra page turns. Your purchase provides one .pdf file that contains both the tablet edition and the letter size page (printable) version. There are several programs available online that will allow you to separate this .pdf file into 2 .pdf files to make it more useful. Telemann wrote this piece for harpsichord, but it works perfectly on the piano. Although this is sometimes listed as being in D minor, I would call it D Dorian.

Let It Be is one of my favourite songs from the Beatles. John Lennon and Paul McCartney are credited as the singer/songwriters of this beautiful ballad.
I watched the movie "Yesterday" featuring so many of the Beatles iconic songs and had this song running through my head for days afterwards. Sitting down at the piano, this arrangement came to me in a few hours. I scribbled madly to get it all down and then was discouraged when I found out that the Beatles' collection of music was NOT in our catalog of arrangeable songs! (Normally I check before I write!)
I contacted SMP Press to ask if it would be difficult to try to obtain the copyrights from Sir Paul! I was excited to see his music included in our catalog a few months later! I put the video up as a piano cover on YouTube and got a few requests for the sheet music. So glad to be able to make it available now.
This year, I've been arranging songs that I consider to be important. The popular ballad's longevity is a testament to it's importance in songwriting history.
My arrangement is written in 4/4 time, with left hand that provides the accompaniment. This is an expressive piano solo, and is a challenge to intermediate and early advanced players. The arrangement has four-note chords, some octave work, and an area where there are bass leaps in the left hand. Legato pedalling should be used throughout, with attention to careful fingering to ensure that the melody is played smoothly and expressively. The piano solo can be used as a recital piece, a solo in many different arenas or for your own private enjoyment.

In 1766 at the age of 34, Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy appointed Haydn his Director of Music. His job was divided between the Esterhazy palace in Austria their palace across the border Hungary. ♫ Haydn dedicated Piano Sonata 40 to Princess Marie Esterhazy. He worked for the Esterhazys for the next 28 years, writing hundreds of pieces of music for the prince. After about 15 years, he signed a new contract allowing him to write music for other customers. Tropical Dance 2 by Justin Elie (Classical Music for Tablet Series) ♫ Justin Elie 1883-1931 was one of the few Haitian composers whose works were published outside Haiti and enjoyed an international reputation for his works. He received his early education in Haiti, studying with pianist Ermine Faubert from 1889 to 1894 and enrolling briefly at the prestigious institution de Saint Louis de Gonzague in Port-au-Prince. ♫ In 1895, at the age of 12 he traveled to France and enrolled at the Cours Masset, a preparatory school for the Paris Conservatory. In 1901 at the age of 17 he entered the Paris Conservatoire. Elie returned to Haiti in 1905. ♫ He undertook a concert tour in 1909 and 1910, featuring works by European composers, and visited Jamaica, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Curaçao, Venezuela, and Cuba. Élegié in E Flat Minor for solo piano (Classical Music for Tablet Series) ♫ by Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninoff (Opus 3.1) ♫ Rachmaninoff (born in 1873) , Russian composer, virtuoso pianist, and conductor, was considered one of the finest pianists of his day. His compositions belong to the Romantic period of music history. He graduated at the Moscow Conservatory in 1892. After the premiere of his First Symphony in 1897, the negative reaction by an important critic sent him into a tailspin of depression that lasted several years. ♫ In 1909 he performed a series of 26 performances with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the USA. In 1914 he travelled to England for a concert tour. ♫ In February 1917 on the day the Socialist Revolution began in St Petersburg, he performed a benefit piano recital in Moscow for wounded Russian soldiers. When he returned home, he found that a group of Social Revolutionary Party members had seized his property as their own communal property. He had invested most of his earnings on the estate, but left it behind. Rachmaninoff's concert performance in Yalta on 5 September 1917 was to be his last in Russia. The chaos and tension of the October Revolution was daunting. He composed with the noise of gunshots and rallies in the background. He received an invitation to perform 10 recitals across Scandinavia. He accepted the offer, using it as an excuse to obtain permits so he and his family could flee Russia. ♫ He returned to the USA in November 1918 and America became his home. When he became an American citizen in 1943, Sergei Rachmaninoff said: “This is the only place on earth where a human being is respected for what he is and what he does, and it does not matter who he is and where he came from.†He died in March 1943 from cancer at the age of 70. She was one of the earliest advocates and scholars on historically informed performance practices, and she made the first-ever recording of J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations on the harpsichord.Landowska was born in Warsaw in 1879 and started playing the piano when she was four years old. As a child, she studied with Jan KleczyÅ?ski and then Aleksander Michalowski. Kleczynski noticed in her lessons that she had an affinity for older Baroque music, and he didn't want to impose his sensibilities onto the already apparent musical prodigy. Consequently, her mother decided that Kleczynski was too lenient of a teacher and sent her to study with the stricter Michalowski, who was a Chopin specialist. When she was 16 years old, Landowska moved to Berlin to study composition with Heinrich Urban, but was discouraged by the rigid curriculum. However, while in Berlin she composed songs and orchestral works, and she met her future husband, Henry Lew. In 1900, the young couple moved to Paris and got married. There she became associated with the Schola Cantorum, and was introduced to Vincent D'Indy, Albert Schweitzer, and other prominent performers and musicologists of the era.Throughout the next ten years, Landowska toured Europe and Russia, and dedicated herself to researching the authentic performance practices of older music. Her husband assisted her in this research, and they often utilized libraries that they encountered while touring. She concluded that it's more appropriate to play Baroque keyboard music on the harpsichord rather than on the piano. By 1909, Landowska and her husband published the book Musique Ancienne, which was the culmination of all of their research regarding the performance practices of Baroque music. She also started teaching harpsichord classes in 1913 at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin.Ten years later, Landowska made her debut in the United States, performing with the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Stokowski. Also in 1923, she performed in the world premiere of Manuel de Falla's El retablo de maese Pedro, where she met Francis Poulenc and asked him to write a harpsichord concerto for her. She also commissioned a concerto from Falla in 1925, which would prove to be a modern masterpiece. In 1929, Landowska performed the premiere of Poulenc's Concert champêtre in Paris. By this time, she had settled in a town north of Paris, and was teaching from her school L'Ã?cole de Musique Ancienne, which she established in 1925. She offered private and group courses and an annual summer concert series that was very popular. Landowska taught and performed in this capacity until 1940, when she had to abandon the school, her extensive library, and her home because of World War II. With the assistance of her student Denise Restout, she escaped to Portugal and then sailed to the United States, and eventually settled in Lakeville, Connecticut. She continued to perform and teach in the U.S., and at the age of 70 she recorded the complete Well-Tempered Clavier, which was highly acclaimed. Landowska was 80 years old when she passed away in Lakeville in 1959.

The Etherea Suite, Volume 1 is for intermediate to advanced players who enjoy lyrical, exciting, and showy repertoire, while expressing their imagination through their playing. Players get to musically explore the mountains, the desert, volcanoes, time travel to ancient times, and fight in battle! Volume I of the suite represents three main characters from the sci-fi, fantasy book Trials of the Innermost (release date May 26, 2023). Each movement has a distinct feel and reflects each character's personality. This edition features performance notes written by the composer, including musical elements unique to each movement, fun facts, and personal influences JohnWillard had in mind when creating the work. A graphic of the musical cryptogram system used to make the melodies for each character is featured at the end of the notes. The three movements imitate a sonata, with the overall order of the suite is slow, slow, fast. Some teaching elements in the first movement I. Vayriel: Protector of the Mountains, include: scalar passages (A natural minor scale), shifting hands position, rolled chords, repeated left hand patterns, ornaments, and pedaling. II. Zinvar: Peacemaker of the Volcanic Rifts is more challenging, but has more room for musicality, expression, exploring different touches on the piano, and ethereal use of pedaling, like the sostenuto pedal (if you have one!) The movement opens with a mysterious, wave-like arpeggiated left hand pattern, similar to pieces of Chopin or Rachmaninoff. The B section is practice in using the sostenuto (middle) pedal while playing softly, imitating Gregorian Chant. Best of all the ending sounds harder than it actually is and you get to play as loud as possible! III. Idrilia: Warrior of the Desert is fast paced, rhythmic, and inspired by video games. This piece is a nice supplement for students learning techniques found in toccatas, nocturnes, and pieces that require a big, full sound. The longest and most advanced movement, players can enjoy using all the things: pedaling, accents, quick changes in dynamic contrast, and a lyrical B section. Technique requires comfort with arpeggios, chord inversions, octaves, and sensitivity to voicing. Once mastered, this movement can be both fun to play as a stand-alone recital piece or an exciting treat to play for friends and family. You'll find yourself humming the simple melody as it transforms throughout the work, and the ending is a chance to play big chords by using the full range of the keyboard.
