Debussy Inconnu: Album of works for the piano by Claude Debussy completed by Robert Orledge, Vol. 2

Piano Solo - Advanced Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Claude Debussy/Ro…
(+)
Piano Solo - Advanced Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Claude Debussy/Robert Orledge. 20th Century, Impressionistic, Repertoire. Score. 76 pages. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing
Contains Le Roi Lear: Prélude,Première Fanfare, and La Mort de Cordélia,Toomai des éléphants, Rodrigue et Chimène: Prélude à l’acte 1p. Le Martyre de Saint Sébastien: La Passion , and No-ja-li ou Le Palais du Silence

From Robert Orledge's notes:

My interest in the wonderful music of Claude Debussy began in the 1980s when I researched and published a book with Cambridge University Press entitled Debussy and the Theatre. During the course of my studies in Paris, I was amazed to discover that Debussy planned over 50 theatrical works but only finished two of these entirely by himself (the opera Pelléas et Mélisande in 1893–1902 and the ballet Jeux for Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes in 1912–13). Of the rest, many were never started musically (like Siddartha and Orphée-roi with the Oriental scholar Victor Segalen, 1907); some had a few tantalising sketches (like the Edgar Allan Poe opera Le Diable dans le beffroi, 1902–03); some were half-finished (like his other Poe opera La Chute de la Maison Usher, 1908–17); while others were musically complete but had their orchestrations completed by other composers (like Khamma, by Charles Koechlin, 1912–13; or Le Martyre de Saint Sébastien and La Boîte à joujoux by his ‘angel of corrections’ [‘l’ange des Corrections’] André Caplet in 1911 and 1919 respectively).

For it has to be admitted that what some scholars call Debussy’s ‘compulsive achievement’ could equally well be viewed as laziness, especially as far as the minute detail required for calligraphing his orchestral scores was concerned. It was as if creating the music itself was of greater importance than controlling its final sound, even if Debussy was an imaginative orchestrator when he found the time and energy to do it. It also seems true that Debussy also preferred inventing ideas to turning them into complete pieces. However, despite the lack of detail in many of his sketches (missing clefs, key signatures, dynamics, phrasing, etc.) the notes themselves are surprisingly accurate, whether or not they can be compared with a later draft. Thus, a large number of sketches exist for his Chinese ballet No-ja-li ou Le Palais du Silence and it is not too difficult to see which parts of Georges de Feure’s 1913 scenario (see below) inspired which ideas. But Debussy hardly made any attempt to join them together after the first few bars.

It was usually up to his publisher, Jacques Durand, to find solutions when Debussy risked a breach of contract. Debussy was supposed to supervise the orchestrations completed by others, but this supervision was usually very light and restricted to quiet, sensitive moments in which problems were easier to spot. Far from jealously guarding every one of his created notes, as Ravel did, Debussy once even went as far as to ask Koechlin to ‘write a ballet for him that he would sign’ on 26 March 1914 when he was hard-pressed to fulfil his lucrative contract for No-ja-li with André Charlot at the Alhambra Theatre in London. In the end, Debussy (through Durand) sent Charlot the symphonic suite Printemps instead, whose orchestration had been completed by Henri Busser in the Spring of 1912.

So, when I was offered early retirement as Professor of Music at Liverpool University in 2004, I seized the opportunity it would give me to spend time trying to reconstruct some of Debussy’s lost potential masterpieces from his existing sketches and drafts—then orchestrating them in Debussy’s style when this was appropriate. I had begun this mission in 2001 with the most promising project, the missing parts of Scene 2 of La Chute de la Maison Usher and the sheer joy it gave me at every stage persuaded me to tackle other projects, especially when Debussy experts were unable to identify exactly where I took over from Debussy (and vice versa) in Usher.Contains Le Roi Lear: Prélude,Première Fanfare, and La Mort de Cordélia,Toomai des éléphants, Rodrigue et Chimène: Prélude à l’acte 1p.

Piano - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q11149 Composed by Stefan Heucke. This edition: single sheet. Downloadable, Separate edition. Op. 65. Duration 4 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q11149. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q11149). - Stefan Heucke.

Composed for a call for scores for Vox Novus' 15 Minutes of Fame series, this piece is dedicated to and was chosen for performance by world-renowned pianist Shiau-uen Ding. It is and homage to Scott Joplin, and bears the tongue-in-cheek words, If the world is going to end in 2012, it is going to create quite a mess. Get me a rag! Just a minute... Get it? This piece ought to be quite popular.

Piano Solo - Advanced Intermediate - Digital Download By Victor Young and Ned Washington. Arranged by Rupert Austin. 5 pages. Published by Rupert Austin
An arrangement of the classic Victor Young melody for solo piano in a moody jazz ballad style. Performance duration is about 4 minutes 15 seconds, and a performance can be viewed at youtube.com/c/rupertaustin.and#65279; The main melodic material of the original song is presented during the first 32 bars, with some use of harmonic substitutions. From bar 33 to 77 the song is explored in an extensive improvisatory section where much use of rubato would suit the style. Some significant tempo changes are marked during this section. The arrangement then provides a restatement of the first 28 bars before closing with a brief coda. An arrangement of the classic Victor Young melody for solo piano in a moody jazz ballad style. Originally for piano and orchestra, I have carefully arranged the beautiful romantic themes of this piece for solo piano. I have combined the orchestral textures with the piano solo to bring them together as a cohesive piece. There is no stretches greater than an octave, and the part is heavily reduced from the original-but the piece still falls into advanced intermediate as I have kept the passion (just less notes!) Each section could easily be used as a separate piece.
The full score is 11 pages and it is nearly10 minutes long- for full suitability on level of difficulty, the youtube link provide the full score- I wanted to give opportunities for pianists to play an easier version of this fabulous piece. I made the recording live on a digital piano, with technology to enhance.
Great for valentine's day, weddings, anniversaries, romantic events, it's a firm favourite with lots of people as the themes are so memorable- just fantastic to play.Originally for piano and orchestra, I have carefully arranged the beautiful romantic themes of this piece for solo piano. Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1508715 Composed by Ryan Brechmacher. 21st Century,Classical,Instructional,New Age. Score. 31 pages. Ryan Brechmacher #1083982. Published by Ryan Brechmacher (A0.1508715). These pieces were originally written as TikTok challenges—the idea was I was supposed to compose a theme based on a motive from either the Classical or sometimes even pop/rock music realm in just fifteen minutes. After a few of these videos, I started writing at an incredible speed, sometimes writing more than two or three pieces per day. These pieces have often ended up vastly different than their original material, which makes them even more fun—it might be a challenge to figure out on which pieces these compositions are based. I’ve decided to publish these pieces so you could enjoy playing them. Each of them is in their “urtext” edition (no dynamics or editorial markings, aside from tempi), so feel free to add your own flair.

Solo Piano - Grade 3 - Digital Download SKU: FX.FX073658 Composed by Gilles Mayzaud. Original Composition, Republished Master Piece. Classical, Educational. Solo Part. 51 pages. Duration 24 minutes. FLEX Editions - Digital Sheet Music #FX073658. Published by FLEX Editions - Digital Sheet Music (FX.FX073658). - Gilles MAYZAUD ; Instruments: 1 Solo Piano.

Published by Robert A. Howard (A0.1398806). 'Minute Bagatelle' is a light, skittish, solo piano miniature. It features simple textural variations on a jaunty jig-like theme that is stated an octave lower on each statement. Harmonies almost exclusively feature added fourth chords. The piece is exactly one minute long in duration, as a response to Chopin's famous Minute Waltz. It was designed as an educational piece, but can be performed by most standards of pianists, from mid-grade students through to professionals. The work is composed in a highly accessible idiom. The piece could even be used as a carefree encore in recital or concert.Duration: 1 minute.Registered with PRS (Performing Rights Society, UK).Composer's website: www.roberthowardmusic.co.uk

Published by Samuel Wellman (A0.882143). This piece is an exact mirror of Chopin's 'Minute' Waltz. The left hand now plays what the right hand originally had, and vice versa. It's not simply an inversion but the same relationship of black and white keys so that the 'feel' of the left hand duplicates the right hand original. One may inspect Vincent Persichetti's 'Seven Mirror Etudes' to see how this works; in his pieces the LH is a mirror of the RH. But in mine there are two mirrors, so to speak: each hand is a mirror of what the opposite hand has in the Chopin original. The result is somewhat odd, since major triads become minor and tonal relationships are altered.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.785665 Composed by F Chopin. Arranged by Grant Horsley. Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score. 7 pages. Grant Horsley #5040861. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.785665). Chopin-Minute Waltz- Easier version- Top end Intermediate The famous Minute waltz of Chopin here has been modified firstly, a change of key from D flat to E flat. Also the chords have been placed at an inversion closer to the bass note to limit the jumping. It has been kept quite close to the original in terms of texture but the left hand has be consolidated to enable pianist to have a version to play if they don't feel confident with the original. It is a real show-piece and one that lots of people know.
