Des Hold My Hands Tonight is a piano solo arrangement of the 1901 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano. Â This arrangement is only loosely based on the original melody and harmony; I pretty much changed everything--tempo, rhythm, time signature, style, structure, etc. Â Now the piece has a child-like bounce with an infectious melody line and rhythmic jazz interludes. Â Overall the piece is Classical with light jazz influences; a piece which doesn't take itself too seriously, it just wants to have fun. Â 2 page score; 1:10 minutesThis piece is also found in my book, Carrie Jacobs-Bond, Popular Songs 1900-1925, a collection of 51 of her songs I have arranged for piano solo, which is also available on this site.

Years later, I composed a musical work for piano and orchestra - a creative and classic concerto, capturing the Great Wall's grandeur and majestic attraction.My first visit to the Great Wall of China was in 1983 while engaged as a pianist onboard a cruise ship that sailed the waters of Asia. My first impression of seeing the Great Wall and the scenic landscape surrounding it, was one of awe and amazement.At that time, I did not realize the lasting effect this memorable attraction would have on me. It is especially for the teen. From ms. 1 to 4, both hands are following the syllables of Oh! My Good-ness with the triads going down from A to G to F and E. The triad movement makes a sound of surprise like a scream. Watch for the coordination between the two hands on ms. 10, 14, 18, In ms. 28 and 29, the same two measures appear again with different fingering. The tempo control on this song is very important. This 2-hands piano version is fairly difficult and requires large stretches at times, but for those who like a challenge it is well worth it. However, we decided it would be good to provide 4-hands versions as well, which are easier to perform and also available on this site. The original stories behind the movements are: 1. Marie for shame - based on a setting of the poem Marie, vous estes paresseuse - Marie for shame you keep a-bed too long, you must get up and enjoy life. 2. Nocturne is basically a segue to the first movement, in which Marie yawns and goes back to sleep! The harmonies are rich and yet somnolent. 3. Camp David is a sprightly number based on the Yiddish folksong Ikh bin a meidel in de joren - I am a maiden come of age and I am looking for a husband. 4. Blue Boar Blue is based on a poem by a friend stuck studying in his college room (Blue Boar Quad at Christ Church Oxford) but dreaming of sunny outings to the river and punting. The sound samples are electronic previews. In the case of the 4-hands versions, the pdf files include the score and also separate piano parts. The original string quintets are also available on this site.

A suite of early elementary pieces, all focused around the food students might find in their lunchbox. The suite begins with a prelude that ends on a dominant 7th chord. Two versions of the prelude are included so that the prelude can be followed smoothly by a piece in either a C pentascale or a G pentascale if the entire suite is not being used. Excellent for students learning through an intervallic method. Pieces only use 2nds and 3rds. Most pieces use a quarter note as the smallest note value, while some pieces have eighth notes in a repetitive pattern to help them learn the pattern. Works well for students using Piano Safari to provide supplemental pieces appropriate from the end of Level 1 through very early Level 2. Purchase of this PDF includes a studio license to use the suite with any of your students.

In this text, the author invites the Holy Spirit to transform her life by opening her eyes, her mouth, her ears. Each stanza ends with “illumine me, Spirit divine!†May that be our motto every day of our lives! The piano arrangement is structured in three sections (one style for each verse). In the first section the hands stay close to the middle register and the voicing is modest. And the oom-pah-pah rhythms will give it a light bounce that will bring a smile to whoever plays or listens. On the second verse the hands move to a higher register where the music suddenly becomes more delicate. Think of a music box! Lastly, on the third verse we pull all the stops! He was into many sports and you'll sing exactly which ones!In the key of C Major, the solo is easy, but the thumb is shared by both hands. Occasionally the right thumb is placed on D, which allows the 5th finger to play A. Take a look and please listen. I've recorded it both ways..as a solo and with the optional accompaniment. Yes, I still sing this to My Boy, Scott! And don't take the ending words too seriously. I've been wrong PLENTY of times.

His virtuosity as a performer led him to compose piano works that make extreme demands on the player. One really cool technique he used begins with a rolling arpeggio over two octaves that is passed from hand to hand. After that groove is set up, a melody enters above the arpeggios. The notes of the melody are played by whichever hand isn’t busy at the moment, usually by the left and right hand alternately. This means that half the melody notes are played by the left hand quickly crossing over the right. It can sound to the listener as though the pianist has three hands!I’ve always liked playing pieces that make use of this mechanic, so I decided to write one of my own. It's challenging, but a lot of fun to play.
