This is a bright tempo,happy little original piano solo for the upper intermediate player. Fun to play! I have had a lot of positive feedback from teachers and students alike. Its historic premiere at Pacifica Radio (KPFA) in Berkeley on 4 October, 1991 to inaugurate their new facility is included in Nicolas Slonimsky's book Music Since 1900. It has been reviewed and written about extensively. Score. 8 pages. Martyn Johnson #935306. Published by Martyn Johnson (A0.1350503). I take this classic tune through 2 keys - C major and Db major. It is basically a stride piano version but the right hand owes a lot to ragtime too. It should be played with a nice swing rhythm ie tied triplets not straight quavers (eighth notes) and with a bit of a bounce!I don't include fingering or dynamics of which no two piano teachers would agree on, so I leave this to the discretion of the player. I do include chord symbols which I always find most useful in learning a tune. Please note this is a piano solo and doesn't show the notation for the other instruments included on my youtube upload ie strings and bass. I write all my tunes to stand up as piano solos so it sounds perfect when played as a piano solo.It's a lovely tune and I hope you have as much fun playing it as I did arranging it.

One of the famous rags recorded on piano roll by Joplin in 1902.This arrangement has been made simpler to allow more pianists to have a go at this great rag.The main change was to convert it to 4/4 instead of the (2/4 common two-step time signature for rags). The main reason is for easy of reading- and maybe easier on the eye to comprehendI have taken out nearly all of the large stretches and limited the harmony parts to what is essential and nothing more. There are no big leaps or complex rhythms. It is 4 pages long and 4 mins 30 in length. The youtube link has the full score for you to assess suitability.I have set it for intermediate player- it's great fun and would be useful as a showpiece, something to play for concerts, recitals, productions, etc.
