Caddo County Sunrise is the seventh and final title in a collection of solo piano pieces called SIMPLE SONGS. Caddo County Sunrise is inspired by the rolling hills and sprawling red clay farmland in southwestern Oklahoma. The piece is set in Eb Mixolydian and later modulates to F Mixolydian. The somewhat simple melody features some syncopation and octaves in both hands. This movement is suitable for advanced intermediate pianists and is approximately 4 minutes and 20 seconds in length.SIMPLE SONGS is a collection of original compositions for solo piano simple in construction, varied in form and content, and vastly enjoyable to perform and hear. Syllan is the old Cornish word for the Scilly Isles, a group of low-lying islands 26 miles off the end of Lands End, England. The climate is mild and the beaches are white. Samson is the largest now uninhabited island, very distinctive as it is two hills, with a strip of land in the middle. An eerie feeling pervades this land, with the remnants of crofters houses scattered among the bracken and seabirds having taken over. .

Biblicals: Concerto for Solo Piano in Five Movements (1998) was commissioned from thecomposer by an anonymous benefactor for pianist Kathleen Supové in tribute of her tirelesssupport of new music.The work is in five movements, each inspired by a different biblical quotation which isquoted in the score before each movement. If possible, these passages should be printed inthe program or read aloud before the performance of the work. Each movement isprogrammatic only in an internal sense. While the movements do not attempt to directlyportray the action of the passage in a storybook sense, they do attempt to capture the overallaffect of the verse. The form of the work is as a concerto for solo piano drawing on a titlethat has been used in the past by numerous composers. Likewise, although the work does notinvolve an orchestra, I have titled it concerto because it contains elements of a concerto solopart and because of the virtuosity required to perform the work. The work explores a widerangeof styles from quasi-lyrical to highly chromatic. Throughout, the work has a rhythmicintensity which should be observed by the performer.The first movement, Hovering Over the Waters, makes use of an irregular rhythmic patternintroduced in the opening measure and used throughout the work. Irregular and nervousrhythms using chromatic intervals pervade the entire movement.The second movement, Baldhead, is a forceful and loud movement making use of the clashbetween diatonic and pentatonic clusters. It is relentless in its pounding energy, irregularrhythms, and volume. This movement is dedicated to American composer Daniel Pinkhamon the occasion his 75th birthday in 1998. The connection of this movement to Pinkhamcomes in the superimposition of pentatonic and diatonic clusters, a technique used so well inone of my favorite Pinkham works, Blessings for Organ (1978).The third movement, Forgiven and Free, presents a tranquil scene involving the building ofchords, standard and otherwise, through the adding of tones one at a time. Brief chromaticmelodies appear and then disappear quickly.The fourth movement, Under the Sun, makes use of a motive involving four chords over a lefthand bass consisting of a major-tenth chord. This motive appears throughout the movement,constantly breaking in and interrupting the action. A variety of irregular rhythmic motivesappear throughout as a contrast to the main motive with its strict rhythm. Quotes of nurseryrhyme tunes are hidden throughout the movement as well in various forms.The fifth movement, The Seventh Angel, is a fast and furious tarantella. As the movementflies by a variety of musical ideas emerge and then disappear into the main motive again.The music continues to get faster and faster and finally the movement ends with a furiousprogression from the bottom to top of the piano and then a thunderous unison chord in thelower register.

Everlasting Promise, 3 pages, is an intermediate piece in the key of C, is the seventh piece from a fairy tale suite of 8 pieces entitled The Kingdom of Light. This work tells the story of a beautiful kingdom where the people are always singing and dancing. A place with glorious sunsets and sparkling seashores, with no evil lurking anywhere...until one day the Dark Knight arrives. Can the Prince save his lovely Princess? Can peace and safety be restored once more? For individual student enjoyment as well as for recital programs. The recordings have narration and character voice overs followed by the piano piece that tells the story. Churches can use this for religious purposes as this can be allegorical in nature.The solo, Everlasting Promise, is in 4/4 time, opens with a wedding processional using common tone chords. The second and third sections depict the saying of wedding vows followed by great joy as the Prince and Princess are wed. Students with small hands can play single notes instead of octaves when necessary.Other pieces available in this suite are: Script for The Kingdom of Light,The Kingdom of Light, Joyful News! Leaving, The Dark Knight, Waiting, His Journey and Return and Glorious Celebration.

Greensleeves - George Shearing (Complete Piano Transcription)Jazz pianist George Shearing plays solo piano on this complete transcription of the traditional Irish folk song Greensleeves from the album My Ship released in 1974.Song description. The solo is played over seven choruses in total. The first chorus is a simple but emotionally rich monophonic melody for the right hand only. In the second chorus, the melody follows the main melody of the right hand with a delay of one bar in the octave of the left hand in a canon-like style. The third chorus is a baroque style with lots of ornamental trills, and the inner voices move with a lively movement in the basic three voices. In the fourth chorus, the melody is finally reharmonized in jazz harmony (restructuring of the chord structure), supported by a stylish chord progression. The atmosphere changes again in the fifth chorus, where the main melody of the first half moves with two voices, and the second half is sung with block chords blending the chords in a glittering octave. The sixth chorus finally becomes George's quintessential jazz, with a fine and dynamic exchange of phrases in a swinging tempo. The final seventh chorus brings the song to a profound ending. Please enjoy the lustrous sound of George Shearing.PDF format, 13 pages. The Pitcairn Islands are a remote British colony in the South Pacific, famous for being the site where the mutineers from the HMS Bounty landed. The islands’ population have always been very small (currently numbering around 50), yet, aside from the official anthem of God Save the King (which is not heard often on the islands), there have been, and continue to be, many unofficial anthems in use in the colony.In Diana Jolliffe Belcher’s 1871 book “The Mutineers of the Bounty and their Decendants in Pitcairn and Norfolk Island†it is reported that a local poem by Rev. G. H. Nobbs was set to the tune “Rousseau’s Dream†(sheet music) and was considered by Pitcairners to be their anthem at the time. It is not known for how long this was considered as their anthem, however. Also, in 1856, several Pitcairners resettled on Norfolk Island as Pitcairn had become too small. The local anthem now in use on Norfolk Island, Come Ye Blessed, is also referred to as the “Pitcairn Anthemâ€, and more than likely was brought to the island by the Pitcairn settlers, suggesting that this anthem was in use on Pitcairn at that time, and is also heard on Pitcairn currently.Currently, the song “We From Pitcairn Island†(to the tune of the hymn “The Royal Telephoneâ€) is used as an unofficial anthem at gatherings and the like. The lyrics were written by Pitcairner Melva Evans with assistance from the local Seventh Day Adventist Pastor L. A. J. Webster in 1962 to be performed by the school children on board a visiting cruise ship, but the song became identified by residents as their unofficial anthem. Other songs, such as “The Goodbye Song†(written by Pitcairner Amelia Young), and the hymn “In The Sweet By and By†are considered unofficial “Pitcairn songs†at gatherings as well. (“Goodbye songsâ€, sung to ships as they leave the country, are a tradition in many Polynesian islands, and are part of the patriotic music of those countries.).

The meter than changes, feeling a little more urgent and a heartbeat is introduced in the left hand which remains for most of the work. This can be interpreted as a fetal heartbeat, the heartbeat of the singer or the listener. It ebbs and flow, becoming at times more urgent and then more restful. The modulation into the third verse is coupled with a key change, intended to convey a stronger, more sorrowful emotion. The work ends in quiet with the person alone. Alone. This is the seventh installment in my Contemplative Spirituals for Piano collection.
