This arrangement of The Last Time I Saw Paris is written as played by piano artist, Liberace. It contains an introduction, by Liberace, using parts of the French song, Clair De Lune by Claude Debussy.The Last Time I Saw Paris is a song composed by Jerome Kern, with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, published in 1940. It was sung in the 1941 film Lady Be Good by Ann Sothern.By December 1940, six versions of the song were on the charts, with Kate Smith having exclusive radio rights for the song for six weeks. The song catered to a wartime nostalgia for songs about European cities following the Second World War Battle of France (which brought Paris under Nazi control), with A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square also proving popular.The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1941. This was Kern's second Academy Award for Best Original Song (following his success with The Way You Look Tonight in 1936), and Hammerstein's first. Valse Sentimentale is in ternary form, in 3/4 time and romantic in natureThe first section is a gentle waltz in A minor and the second section by contrast is in F major and takes on a barcarolle like quality but remaining in 3/4 not the traditional 6/8. It returns to section one again and the coda brings back a short reminder of the barcarolle theme in A major to finish.I have set it to Intermediate level, but the full score score is on the youtube link for you to assess. It would work well for a variety of occasions.The score is 7 pages and it is around 5 mins 50 in length.Clarinet duet, Flute Duet and Violin duets are also available- as is their piano accompaniments.

These pieces were originally written as TikTok challenges—the idea was I was supposed to compose a theme based on a motive from either the Classical or sometimes even pop/rock music realm in just fifteen minutes. After a few of these videos, I started writing at an incredible speed, sometimes writing more than two or three pieces per day. These pieces have often ended up vastly different than their original material, which makes them even more fun—it might be a challenge to figure out on which pieces these compositions are based. I’ve decided to publish these pieces so you could enjoy playing them. Each of them is in their “urtext” edition (no dynamics or editorial markings, aside from tempi), so feel free to add your own flair.

The opening key of A Natural Minor depicts a cold and eerie morning before the dawn has broken. The key change to A Major warms the listener as the day approaches, and creatures from the earth and sky begin to wake. Notice the sounds of the day including bird calls (bar 35), the sun rising (bar 45), and church bells pealing in the distance (bar 58). As the texture in the music intensifies, it symbolises all forms of life engaging in their daily activities (bar 63). As the climax unfurls (bar 73), the focus returns to the majestic sun, as it continues its journey into the sky.This piece is to be played with the sustain pedal throughout. Specific pedal suggestions have been marked in various bars. Touches of rubato are required at times to allow the piece space. The melodic line must always be emphasized over the accompaniment, regardless of the clef.

This is my first time I have written a piece that doesnot have a standard structure. It is also the first time that I have expressed my feelings about Australia through music, inspired by Lawson’s moving poem. The reason why I name my piece ‘Consciousness2.0’ is because it depicts a picture of how people rise and fall in life. An example of this is what happened during the Australian bushfires, which was a time when people were very aware of what was happening. Consciousness means to be aware and responsive to the surroundings, and it can also mean a person’s perspective of events. My piece begins with a soft introduction, which describes the life of Australia and its unique environment. From the bustling cities to the open country, there is always some life around Australia. Sometimes there is also some wild weather, which is represented in the arpeggiated left hand (bars 10-14). The story then shifts its focus to the animals, through short 2-part phrase in bars 23-26. The animals areenjoying their time in nature. The phrase is in Aeolian mode, so there is a bit of mystery instead of having an obvious key. Then, the parallel fifths depict the openness and vastness of the land. The transition is shown in bars 32-34 by a smooth 4-part phrase going downwards. The next fast section (bars 35-47) describes the rise of panic, just like a howling heat of the bushfire. The chromatic 7th chords (bars 36,38) make a sense of tension, and after 3 times, the chromaticism makes its way to a recent memory of the rushing semiquavers (bars 43-44) After the bushfires came closer, animals panicked as they rushed and left their precious homes. It was devastating to see how many people were affected, with houses destroyed, people and animals burning into the ashes (bars 48-54). Then there is another new section (bars 55-68) which describes the uncertainty, for example, the right-handquavers describe a flashback of nature planning itself to create a bushfire, or the times when people were planning a solution to this incident. The uncertainty was unfolded when the fast right hand semiquavers come back, (bars 69-82) creating a whoosh of destruction disappointment and adjustment. The last part is the ending of story (bars 84 to end). Though the fire has made a lot of destruction, with Aussie spirit, there is always hope that everyone can rebuild a new and better community in the future

This solo piano song is from Casey Crosby's album November. The album is a personal collection of memories and landscapes of Casey growing up in the Blue Ridge Mountain region of Northern Virginia and a small farming community in rural Upstate New York. The songs are images and observations of Casey's personal experiences of autumn, particularly November. It was a common event between Casey and his older brother to try to capture fireflies in glass jars as the sun set. Being only 4 or 5 years old, you can imagine how magical it must have been for a young boy to see his brother catch these flying creatures in a jar and stare in wonder at how they lit up the night. I wrote it out note for note, and even included fingering and sustain pedal suggestions. I also included jazz chord symbols for those of you that either like to know what harmonies I was thinking, or want to add their own ideas based on those chords. The chords I used are pretty much based on the original harmony. When I started out arranging for solo piano I was especially curious about how to create a latin groove underneath a melody. I studied bossa and samba music as well as cuban music for that. The rumba is a great style to start with. That's also the bases for this arrangement. About the song I'll Be Home For ChristmasI have a very special relationship to this song. I first heard it after moving to the United States from Germany and spending my first Christmas in Chicago. On that Christmas Eve I was all alone for the first time, and when I turned on the radio this song came on. I don't easily cry, bad that was one of those moments when the floodgates just open up. It is such a sentimental song. And the closing lyrics I'll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams are just so emotional in this context.Enjoy!

All of these can be disorienting to students encountering Ravel's music for the first time, so students will benefit from Ravel-preparatory repertoire, like this piece, that introduces these techniques.Since most currently published collections of Impressionist-style pedagogical repertoire focus on Claude Debussy's language, this piece is a welcome addition to the student piano literature and will help bridge the gaps between standard teaching repertoire and pieces like Ravel's Sonatine, while also exposing students to a new, rich, and inviting tonal language that will inspire them to seek out more of Ravel's compositions.On a more personal level, this piece was also inspired by my main non-music hobby: raising and releasing butterflies. I hope my garden will have as many butterflies flitting through it as are depicted in the 32nd-note passages in this piece!

Wells Quad served as a classroom/academic office complex for years after Jordan Hall was built in the 50s, but they are now back-converting the buildings into dorms again. (As of this writing, two of the buildings now serve as dorms, while the other two are still academic buildings. While I was pursuing my doctoral minor in composition, the composition professors' studios were almost all in Wells Quad's Sycamore Hall. They upgraded to the East Studio Building as soon as they could, though!).

In my experience, I would guess that Clair de lune has been the final, unfulfilled and unattained goal of piano students more than any other piece in music history.If you recognize the truth in this statement, you owe it to yourself to investigate this edition, in which for the first time, all of the technical challenges are clearly identified with their solutions. Playing a piece of music is not the same as mastering it. Surviving a performance is not the same as playing with confidence. There is no joy in being vulnerable to embarrassing mistakes. It is no way to live. You deserve a set of instructions (this edition) that enables you to master your performance, play with confidence and beauty, not an edition which blocks your access.Clair de Lune is so familiar that it is hard to appreciate just how revolutionary it (and Debussy) are. The word revolutionary is overused, so we fail to realize that Clair de Lune is difficult to play largely because it was difficult to notate. If the faculty of the Paris Conservatory didn't understand or appreciate Debussy, why would we expect the staff of a publishing company (as competent as they were) to understand the demands of his music. Debussy broke the boundaries of conventional piano notation. That means contradictions and ambiguity, which must be addressed.A note about fingering: where and why it is or is not presented. I've done my best to prepare an edition of this music that will enable the Intermediate Classical pianist to prepare and perform this masterpiece. My goal is to include information that the pianist needs, but does not already know. For Claire de Lune, some passages are dependent upon specific hand/fingering solutions, while other passages are either (1) equally playable with different fingering, or (2) only playable by what essentially becomes known as a self-evident solution. For example, m9-24, and m61-62, fall into this category. Octaves can only practically be played with fingers 1 and 5. I provide a lot of finger numbers, but that is not the same as creating an edition that can be played without significant staff reading. The premise is that an intermediate musician should have access to advanced material--that is a musician is motivated to play pieces one level more advanced. Attempting to bridge more than one level is not my goal.
