Pierre-Claude-François BOUILLON (18??-1883) was the principal conductor of the Cirque Fernando, the famous circus of the Belle Époque who inspired many impressionist artists, such as Renoir, Degas, Toulouse-Latrec and Georges Seurrat, whose masterpiece “Le Cirque†was inspired by this Circus. Bouillon was a very prolific compposer, writing many works for solo instrument and piano, marches, galops, waltzs, polkas and other dances. These works were intended to illustrate the various numbers presented during performances..Papillon is a theme and variations which begins with a lyrical introduction. The main theme (letter C) is in the form of a popular French romance. After two variations, there is another lyrical episode which leas to the final polka. Pierre-Claude-François BOUILLON (18??-1883) était le chef d’orchestre du célèbre cirque Fernando, un cirque qui pendant la Belle Époque inspira des artistes tels que Renoir, Degas, Toulouse-Latrec et Georges Seurrat, qui peigne “Le Cirque†d’après une représentation du ce cirque. Bouillon est un compositeur très prolifique, écrivant des œuvres pour instrument solo et orchestre, des marches, des galops, valses,polkas et d’autres morceaux de danse. Ces œuvre avaient pour vocation d’illustrer des divers numéros du cirque. Papillon est un air varié qui commence par une introduction lyrique. La thème principale (lettre C) est en forme de romance populaire. Après deux variations, il y a une seconde épisode lyrique qui amène la polka finale.

Ave Maria (Bach/Gounod) (1853) Charles Gounod (1818 - 1893) Any Saxophone Solo and Piano Ave Maria (Bach/Gounod) by Charles Gounod (after J. S. Bach) (based on music of J. S. Bach) arranged for Any Saxophone Solo and Piano. B-flat and E-flat solo sax parts are included. This arrangment is in the key of C major, as was the 1853 original version. Tempo is around 78 bpm. The solo part is an exercise in expressive legato playing. Some rubato may be added in the last few bars of the music. The Bach/Gounod Ave Maria is a popular and much-recorded setting of the Latin prayer Ave Maria. It was first published in 1853 as “Méditation sur le Premier Prélude de Piano de S. Bach“. Gounod improvised an original melody that he paired with a slightly changed version of a familiar Bach Prelude (Prelude No. 1 in C major, BWV 846, Book I of The Well-Tempered Clavier). The 1853 publication is an instrumental piece. There was no text. Gounod reworked the piece in 1859, finally settling on the Latin prayer “Ave Maria” as lyrics. The new version proved to be an irresistible force. It attracted a phenomenal level of acclaim, becoming immensely popular, even improving Gounod’s faltering reputation with the contemporary public. It is a standard at holiday times, weddings, quinceañeras, church services, and other solemn occasions.

Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522293). This piece is probably Handel’s best-known melody, although it began life as an operatic aria. The opera was called Xerxes, sometimes written Serses and pronounced something like “ZERT-seesâ€. It was commissioned by The King’s Theater in London and composed by Handel (who had become naturalized British and lived in London at the time) around 1737 and 1738. The opera is loosely based on the historical figure King Xerxes, who ruled from around 522-486 BC and was the fourth king of the Achaemenid Empire, a vast region that covered most of the present-day Middle East. The melody is often known simply as Handel’s Largo (despite being marked “Larghetto†in the musical score) and is the opening aria in the opera. The aria, known by its opening line Ombra mai fu is sung by Xerxes to a plane tree: “Tender and beautiful fronds of my beloved plane tree, let fate smile upon you...†Although this lovely melody has survived over the years, the opera itself was a complete failure when it was first performed in London in 1738. This arrangement is in E flat major concert (alto sax in C major) and the top note is the C above the treble clef and the piece generally requires the use of a long and sustained tone quality. The piano part has been kept as simple as possible. Being so well-known, this piece would make a popular encore number for a recital. With Full Score and Individual Parts. Enjoy it!Giuseppe Tommaso Giovanni Giordani (1751 - 1798) was an Italian composer, mainly of opera. Giordani's parents were Domenico Giordani and Anna Maria Tosato. He studied music in Naples with Domenico Cimarosa and Niccolò Antonio Zingarelli. In 1774 he was appointed as music director of the chapel of the Duomo of Naples. His first opera (L'Epponina) was released in 1779. His sacred drama La distruzione di Gerusalemme was a notable success at the Teatro San Carlo of Naples in 1787. He became maestro di cappella at the Cathedral of Fermo in 1791. Until recently, the popular aria Caro Mio Ben (1783) was ascribed to Giuseppe Tommaso Giovanni Giordani. As it is simplified, it is intended for beginner students of instrumental music who want to enter orchestral music, even in a simplified and reduced form, and can be used by music teachers with their students in ensemble practice in situations such as academic recitals, didactic concerts, or assessment tests. The Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67, known as the Symphony of Destiny, by Ludwig van Beethoven, written between 1804 and 1808, is one of the most popular and best known compositions in the entire repertoire of European music. The four movements are characterized by orchestral homogeneity, being, at the same time, an example of alternation: the first movement, revealing great tension, denounced by the strings and raised to an extreme drama; the second movement reveals solemnity, in a funeral march that rises by its emotion and beauty; the third movement, a crispness; the fourth movement expresses triumph and magnificence.
