An infectiously catchy melody make this jazz-style jaunt incredibly fun to play; for Eb or Bb Saxophone (both parts included) and piano. Sunny Blue meanders through various styles; a straight start (mainly 6/8), launching into a groovy swing (following with optional improvisation, or use one of the two written out 'solos' provided). The journey then gravitates to a waltz, before completing its course by ending with a swing ending, and dramatic finish. Sunny Blue has a duration of 3'22 minutes, and is aimed at grade 6/+ players and makes a fantastic concert item. The YouTube video demo shows the whole piece performed on alto sax. You will however receive a universal piano score, and then two saxophone parts (one for Eb, and one for Bb sax).

For SOLO ALTO SAX AND PIANO ACCOMPANIMENT (with optional Double Bass).This beautiful and exciting arrangement is from the beloved Rodgers & Hammerstein ground-breaking 1949 Broadway musical, South Pacific. This arrangement begins very simply with the soloist unaccompanied. Then the piano comes in with a dream-like delicacy with expands into a rich and lush accompaniment. The bridge gets a little spicier with a jazz waltz feel and then expands back to a warmth before a final key change that turns into a big theatrical ending. This is sure to be a real crowd pleaser. The piano accompaniment is quite difficult but there are alternate passages included to simplify the most difficult passages. There is an optional BASS part included that would add to the performance. There is no drum part included, but a drummer could easily improvised from the Bass part which would add a lot as well. This is a work ideal for both, professional performers as well as students of the year before College level (ie. 17 years old)In the past, I had the chance to experience how performing with a musician who is also your personal partner (wife, girlfriend, etc.) can ease the process of merging together, enhancing the performance as if it were by a single musician rather than two separate individuals. So, when I was asked to write a piece for a duo in such circumstances, like the Rose-Gibbs Duo, I saw it as a great opportunity to explore the possibilities of blending, fusing, and merging musical content, sound, and other parameters into a cohesive whole.Therefore, this work explores the concept of musical discourse produced by the interaction of both instruments, which often have to align their accents, timbre, or dynamics to become one entity; as if melting together, as if two solids became liquid and fused to form a new alloy. Fantasie Variation on Mazurek Dabrowskiego was commissioned in 2010 by David Wozniak. Wozniak suggested using the Polish National Anthem as the basis of a composition that can serve as a fiery opener to a concert. After a short introduction, the anthem is stated using a repetitive rhythmic motif in the piano. Variation one is a minor variant that has a chromatic obligato in the saxophone on the repeat. After a two measure interlude in 4/4 that breaks up the 3/4 meter of the mazurka, Variation two begins. This variation uses motives from the anthem to create a new saxophone melody. Variation three changes meter often and is more technical and angular. A repeat of the minor variant brings the first fast section to a close. After a transition to a slower tempo, a mysterious variation with sudden outbursts occurs. It uses a lot of feminine endings that are characteristic of some Polish music. The tempo slows once again before variation seven which is a lyrical and romantic treatment of motives from the anthem. The final fast section begins with a rhythmic 5/8 variation that changes to 6/8 for the second part of the anthem’s structure. An ornamental version of the anthem with the mazurka rhythm returns at the end before a rousing coda brings the work to a close. This composition is recorded by David Wozniak and Krista Wallace-Boaz on the Emeritus label American Fusion CD.
