David McKeown #4367400. Published by David McKeown (A0.587590). The Prince of Denmark’s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremonies. It was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop. Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard. This full version is arranged as a Solo for Alto Saxophone and Piano; the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The single pdf file contains both the score and the solo instrumental part. Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both the solo and accompaniment enjoying melodic interest. The waltz was written sometime between 1843 and 1848, but was not published until 1860, after the composer's death. This waltz is structured as a single movement in rondo form marked allegretto. Raaf Hekkema's (*1968) arrangement of the famous work by Paganini was initiated by a commission of the Dutch Noord Nederlands Orkest which asked him to play Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 2 at a tour. Like its virtuoso counterpart, Capriccio No. 24, the famous last movement La Campanella which had inspired many other composers like Schumann and Liszt reflects, in the version for saxophone, the great wealth of 21st-century saxophone playing - a breathtaking piece full of saxophone acrobatics!
Already available are the famous 24 Capricci Op. 1 by Paganini for solo saxophone (ED 20559). For the CD release of this work, the virtuoso Dutch saxophonist was awarded the Echo Klassik Award in the category of 'Best Instrumentalist of the Year' in 2007.

Quando me'n vo', also known as Musetta's Waltz, is a soprano aria, a waltz in act two of Puccini's 1896 opera La bohème. It is sung by Musetta, in the presence of her bohemian friends, hoping to reclaim the attention of her occasional boyfriend Marcello. This scene takes place at the Café Momus [fr]. Shortly after Mimì, Rodolfo, and their friends have taken seats for a drink, Marcello's former girlfriend, Musetta, shows up with her current patron, the elderly Alcindoro. They quarrel for a bit, then the episode begins as Musetta initiates her move on Marcello. She grabs the spotlight, musically speaking, for a short self-promoting aria (Quando me'n vo'). It is a song directed at the people in the café as much as at the audience in the theater. Popular renditions of the melody were produced during the 1950s, including an American Top 40 hit by Sammy Kaye (You) and a version by Della Reese (Don't You Know?), which reached number two on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Written around 1700, for many years this piece was attributed to Henry Purcell. But more recently many have questioned whether the composer was in fact Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. What is known is that the piece was written for a semi-opera called The Island Princess, and that both men contributed music to the production. In recent years this piece has become a popular wedding favourite. This full version is arranged as a solo for Alto Saxophone and Piano and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Bach arranged for Alto or Tenor Saxophone solo with piano. This piece is the third movement from the Partita #3 for Solo Violin by Johann Sebastian Bach. It is one of Bach’s most instantly recognizable pieces. Playful and lively, this movement is based off the leaping French gavotte rhythm but presented here en rondeau, or in a Rondo style, with the main theme returning in multiple variations. It has been recorded dozens of times and used in many film and TV scores. A recording of Gavotte en Rondeau was included on the Voyager Golden Record, attached to the Voyager spacecraft launched in 1977, as a sample of the culture of Earth.This arrangement of Gavotte en Rondeau is for Alto or Tenor Saxophone Solo with piano. It is transposed to the key of E flat (the original is in the key of E). As the gavotte repeats several times, an optional alternate ending for a shorter and less technically demanding performance is indicated at the end of the third statement of the rondeau. My Saxophone and Me consists of fourteen short and delightful pieces written especially for absolute beginners up to students at elementary level. The book comes in two versions, one for B flat saxophones and the other for E flat instruments. However, for obvious reasons you cannot mix B flat and E flat instruments in the same group. The pieces are intended as supplementary material to your usual tutor books. The music can be used with any number of players and the pieces remain in the lower register. Several early pieces use only the notes B, A and G and the key of G major predominates. Six of the pieces use only half notes (minims) and quarter notes (crotchets). The low C, a tricky note for some beginners, has been avoided almost completely. On the one occasion it appears, the note C an octave above is given as optional. Although the pieces are arranged in approximate order of difficulty you can play them in any order you want, depending on the musical needs of the student. Your students are sure to enjoy these pieces, which are both easy on the fingers and easy on the ear! Several pieces have a few measures (bars) rest in the middle not only to give the player a break and add musical contrast but also to give the experience of counting empty bars during the music. When space allows, piano cues appear in the solo part. Some of the later pieces in the book have good performing potential and could be strung together in any order to create a small suite. Every piece has a short piano introduction so that the student can sense the tempo and musical style before playing. The keyboard accompaniments have been kept as simple as possible with the minimum number of notes. Dynamic markings (e.g. piano and mezzo-forte) are used from the start, but phrasing has been omitted from the solo part. This is because the teacher is usually in the best position to suggest phrasing within the physical capabilities of each student. Slurs have been employed sparingly and only when necessary. The music has been converted into pdf files at 1,200 dpi which will produce professional looking printed copies of high quality. However, the output quality will also depend on your own printer settings and capabilities. The publication consists of a teacher's book (18 pages) and a student's book (8 pages) both contained in the same pdf file. The sample MP3 (click on the “Listen†button above) contains recordings of Nice ‘n Easy (No 2); Lazy Days (No 4); Waltzing Around (No 7); Just a Minuet (No 11) and Donkey Trot (No 12). Colin Kirkpatrick studied at London’s Royal College of Music. He followed a career in music education. He was a High School Music Director in London for about fifteen years and later became a Music Education Adviser for local government, with responsibility for training teachers and directing the instrumental teaching service. The work in education gave him many opportunities for composing.
