Christmas Jazz Volume 3 Eb saxophone edition is another collection of five fabulous arrangements for Eb saxophone (alto or baritone) and piano by Chris Lawry and Keri Degg. The pack includes inventive and original ideas from the two composers/arrangers and include an accessible written out 'sax solo' type section in each. Christmas Jazz Volume 3 includes O Little Town of Bethlehem (a cheeky swing), O Christmas Tree (a lush smooshy ballad), Here we Come a Wassailing (an energetic swing), It Came upon a Midnight Clear (ballad), and Ding Dong Merrily on High (Jazz/Jazz Waltz). With various styles covered (including Funk, smooth jazz, ballad, swing and more). Published by Evelyn R Larter (A0.749835). This is the beautiful Austrian carol arranged for alto saxophone solo and piano in slow jazz ballad style. It is from a set of international carols commissioned by clarinetist Lydia Calhoun for her CD, Carols for the King from Around the World, released in 2015. For more advanced performers, this perennial favorite is suitable for Christmas concerts and church preludes or offertories; it can be taken at either a moderate or a slower tempo, and is around 5 minutes in length. The MIDI recording is only to give an idea of the piece. See also the versions for cello solo, clarinet solo and solo piano. Parts for an optional string quartet, of moderate difficulty, may be purchased separately. All these versions are available at Sheet Music Press. My arrangement takes it from a 60's pop song to a gentle jazz ballad. It is totally reharmonized and has a fresh new feel. The melody is the same, except it has a new Time Signature. The song was originally in 6/8 but I have set it in 1/2 in order to get the pulse and phrasing I want. (Yes, 1 minim/half note per bar.) The original accompaniment was broken arpeggios, but now it is all about the rich new blocked chords. With repeats and a D.S. I have covered all 4 verses and bridges. Enjoy a fresh take on this forever classic. The song is a mournful ballad about a romantic relationship which is falling apart.The song also appeared the following year on Greatest Hits Volume II, though for copyright reasons it no longer appears on the current version of that album. It now appears on Greatest Hits 1976–1986, The Very Best of Elton John and in Greatest Hits 1970–2002, as well as a number of other compilations.The song was covered in 2002 by English boy band Blue for their second studio album, One Love (2002). The song was recorded as a collaboration with Elton John, and was the second single from the album. It peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart on 15 December 2002 and also reached number one in Hungary and the Netherlands. It peaked within the top 10 in an additional 16 countries.In 2004, Elton John and Ray Charles performed the song on Charles' duet album, Genius Loves Company.
