Alto Saxophone, Piano - Grade 2 - Digital Download SKU: FX.FX071918 Composed by Alain Lopez. Classical, Educational. Score and Set of Parts. FLEX Editions - Digital Sheet Music #FX071918. Published by FLEX Editions - Digital Sheet Music (FX.FX071918). The wind carries away the yellow leaves fallen on the pavement, the cafes put tables and chairs in... I evoke here a fall tour that is difficult to do quietly in Paris. How to take your time in this city with so many streets to cross (musical phrases of 3 measures), cars or buses to avoid (musical phrases starts on the second time). While the chestnut vendors are on subway entrances, how not to hurry like others (theme B) to 'catch' the subway...

Pie Jesus, from Fauré's Requiem, for Alto Saxophone and Piano
Saxophone Alto et Piano
Alto Saxophone,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.587705 Composed by Gabrie…
(+)
Alto Saxophone,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.587705 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by David McKeown. Christian,Contemporary,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 5 pages. David McKeown #4810593. Published by David McKeown (A0.587705). Pie Jesus is the fifth and central movement of Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem. The piece was premiered in Paris in 1888, and underwent several revisions in subsequent years. The Requiem was performed at Fauré’s own funeral in 1924, but it’s only in recent years that this gentle version of the Mass for the Dead has received the international recognition it deserves. Contemporary performances in Parisian churches required the Pie Jesus to be sung by a boy treble, but in the concert hall, Fauré always preferred a soprano voice for the part. This arrangement transcribes the orchestral score as a Solo for Alto Saxophone with Piano accompaniment. Both the piano score and the solo part are included in the pdf file. The linked youtube performance is the clarinet version of this arrangement.Soloists at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The rhythms are straightforward, and there is plenty of scope for expressive, lyrical playing. The slow tempo though will require good breath and tone control. The piano part is suitable for an intermediate player. The overall performance time is around three and a half minutes. There are many more top quality arrangements and compositions by David McKeown for you to browse at http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/david-mckeown/6203.

Concert,Romantic Period,Standards. 22 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2151115. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533250). Paul-Agricole Génin was born on 14th February 1832, in Avignon; died 22nd December 1903, in Paris, France. His is often confused with Pierre Génin, who was a flutist who performed mainly in England during the early 20th century.Génin was the Principal flute of the Theatre Italien in Paris, and of the Colonne Orchestra. In addition to writing many works for the flute (he wrote over 60 works for this instrument, he was also one of the first composers to write for the saxophone. He was an Officier de l’Académie des Beaux-ArtsThis work was used as an examination piece at the Paris Conservatory in the class of Adolphe Sax, to whom it is dedicated. After a lyrical introduction which makes use of echo effects, a pastorale theme is presented and then treated in variations. The final variation is a virtuosic valse brillante.

Then, in the 1840’s he wrote his most famous work - O Holy Night. The original song title was Minuit Chretiens or Cantique de Noël. Placide Cappeau provided the original song lyrics. The song was first performed in Roquemaure by the opera singer Emily Laurey at midnight mass in 1847. It became very popular among the French, much the way that Silent Night was famous elsewhere. In the 1850’s John S. Dwight, a Unitarian minister and music teacher translated the song into English. Adolphe Adam In his younger years, Adam studied organ and composition at the Paris Conservatoire. He also played the timpani in the Conservatoire orchestra. Adam used his savings and borrowed money to open a new opera house - the fourth opera house in Paris in 1847. Unfortunately, the Revolution of 1848 forced him to close. He taught composition at the Paris Conservatoire from 1849 until his death in 1856. Placide Cappeau The poet Cappeau was an advocate of the French Enlightenment philosopher Voltaire. Voltaire was renowned for criticizing the Catholic church, religious intolerance, and dogma in general. Consequently, Cappeau made the Redeemer figure in his song a kind of reformer of injustices, in particular, the problem of original sin. To begin with, people recognized Cappeau’s theology as eccentric, probably even doubtful. Theology In the earlier form of Minuit, the Christ figure descends to intervene with His Father’s plan to punish mankind. Traditional doctrine pronounces that Christ came from love, not to intervene. This version also declares that Christ appeared to expunge the original sin of Adam. Cappeau removed this part from him poem years later, because he just didn’t believe it. He preferred to portray Christ as the reformer of disparity and unfairness. Before long, the writer/politician Alphonse de Lamartine referred to the Minuit as the the Marseillaise of religion. Most French churchmen agreed with this idea but certainly did not consider it a tribute. Register for free lifetime updates and revisions at www.jamesguthrie.com

Alto Saxophone,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549727 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Contemporary,Multicultural,Romantic Period,Standards,World. Score and part. 22 pages. Jmsgu3 #3531403. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549727). Duration: ca. 7:00, Score: 12 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano: 7 pages. An epic choice for a recital or funeral. Fauré Background: In the first place, Gabriel Fauré 1845 –1924) was a famous French composer, musician, and educator. Furthermore, his musical ideas influenced numerous 20th-century composers. Therefore, historians regard him as one of the leading French composers of his time. Famous Works: Among his most famous compositions, by and large, are the Pavane, Elegie (op. 24), Requiem, Sicilienne, Nocturnes for piano and the songs Après un rêve and Clair de lune. Inasmuch as his early works are well-known and relatively easy to perform, Faure’s music seems to have become gradually more difficult during his later life. In other words, his later works are somewhat esoteric and complex. Early Home Life: Fauré was in fact born into a well-cultivated family. His aptitude for music became particularly clear early on - when he was still a boy. Under these circumstances, his parents sent him to a music institution in Paris. Consequently, the training he received there prepared him for a career as a church organist and choirmaster. Middle Life: It is important to realize that Fauré studied music composition with the French musical mastermind Camille Saint-Saëns, who became his lifelong friend. Fauré eventually graduated from college and earned a living as an organist and educator. During this period, he had, on the whole, little time to compose. He consequently became more successful in his middle age, becoming organist of the Église de la Madeleine and director of the Paris Conservatoire. However, he still needed time on balance for composing. Therefore, given these points, he withdrew to the countryside during the summer to focus on composing. Later Life: Fauré was, in the final analysis, recognized in France as the foremost French composer of his time. The French government held a national musical tribute particularly for him in Paris. The French President notably headed the ceremony. Elsewhere, on the contrary, Fauré's music was slow to become accepted, except of course, in England. Legacy: Historians often describe Fauré's music in general as a transition between the end of Romanticism and the beginning of modernism. As an illustration, when Fauré was born, Chopin was still composing. However, by the time of Fauré's death, jazz and atonal music, in particular, had come to fruition. Fauré, by all means, suffered from increasing deafness in his later years. Some musicologists believe this to be indeed the cause of the esoteric nature of Faure’s final works.

Alto Saxophone,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.534135 Composed by Louis Adolphe Mayeur. Arranged by Paul Wehage. Concert,Opera,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 29 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3133401. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534135). Louis Adolphe Mayeur (1837 - 1894), was a Belgium clarinetist, saxophonist, composer and conductor who spent most of his musical career in France; Entering the French Military in 1855, he was a clarinetist in the Second Régiment of the Cuirassiers (Mounted Calvary) of the Garde Impériale. A student of Klosé at the Paris Conservatory, he received his First Prize in Clarinet in 1860. One of the inner circle of Adolphe Sax (along with fellow Belgiums Jules Demersseman and Jean-Baptiste Singelée, whose “Quartet for Saxophones“ was premièred with Mayeur playing and Demersseman conducting), Mayeur took up the saxophone and was quickly engaged as the saxophone soloist in the Opera House of Brussels, La Monnaie (the Mint). Sax commissioned a number of works from Mayeur for the saxophone, which were published by his company and used in his class at the Paris Conservatory.By 1871, Mayeur was also named Saxophone Solo with the Paris Opera, performing in opears and ballets by Halévy, Meyerbeer, Thomas, Saint-Saens, Massenet, Délibes and Paladlihe. It would appear that sometime during this period, his relations with Sax became difficult, culminating in his publications of works by Buffet-Crampon, one of Sax’s rival companies and one of the main protagonists in the series of lawsuits which led to Sax’s bankrupcy. Mayeur’s own declining health lead to his death in 1894.The Grande Fantaisie de Concert sur Rigoletto dates from 1877. The contrasting sections use motifs from arias and duets from Verdi’s opera. Florid cadenzas seperate the various sections, but those passages should be played in the manner of “bel canto†ornamentation, always lyrical and songlike. Versions are available from Musik Fabrik for Symhony Orchestra (on rental : 2222/2000/Timp/hp/strings) and for Concert Band (for sale). The score plus solo part for each of the versions is available for sale, as well as the individual parts for the concert band version

Saint-Saëns: The Swan for Alto Sax & Piano

Alto Saxophone,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1314328 Composed by Camille Saint-Saens. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. 19th Century,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Romantic Period. Score and part. 11 pages. Jmsgu3 #903072. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1314328). Saint-Saëns: The Swan (Le Cygne) movement 13 from the Carnival of the Animals Suite. One of his most popular and widely recognized works, it is the only movement from the Carnival Suite that Saint-Saëns permitted to be performed publicly during his lifetime. This is an excellent recital encore to demonstrate melodic playing and strategic phrasing. The Carnival of the AnimalsThe Carnival of the Animals is an entertaining musical suite of fourteen movements by Camille Saint-Saëns. The work was composed for private performance by an ensemble of two pianos and solo instruments. The Swan (No. 13) is among the fourteen most famous movements. In its entirety, it lasts about 25 minutes.Saint-Saëns BackgroundCharles-Camille Saint-Saëns 1835 – 1921) was, by all means, in particular, a famous French composer, brilliant organist, and significant musical mastermind of the Romantic era. Indeed, his most famous compositions, in the long run, include his Piano Concerto No. 2 (1868), Cello Concerto No. 1 (1872), and the Danse macabre (1874). Notwithstanding, we must also add Violin Concerto No. 3 (1880), Symphony No. 3 (the Organ Symphony, 1886), and, it must be remembered, Carnival of the Animals (1886) to the list.ChildhoodIt is essential to realize that Saint-Saëns was undoubtedly, in fact, a child musical prodigy. Consequently, with this in mind, he made his concert debut, albeit at ten years old. Another critical point to remember is that he expressly studied at the Paris Conservatoire, then, despite reality, conversely followed a traditional career path as a church organist. Nevertheless, twenty years later, on the other hand, he left to become a successful freelance pianist and composer despite, as has been noted, his former employment situation. Furthermore, his performances were, after all, markedly in demand - not only in Europe but, above all, in the Americas all in all as well.YouthA point often overlooked is that in his youth, Saint-Saëns was undoubtedly excited about the modern music of the day. He was, in essence, fond of the music of his contemporaries, particularly Schumann, Liszt, and, for the most part, Wagner. In contrast, however, his compositions seemed, in fact, primarily confined within the conservative classical tradition. Be that as it may, he was, at the same time, nevertheless, a scholar of musical history.CriticismOn the whole, his conservatism, in fact, ultimately brought him into frequent conflict in his later years with composers of the impressionist and, in particular, the dodecaphonic schools of musical thought. A point often overlooked is that he included neoclassical elements in his music, contrary to some critics. Furthermore, in so doing, he provided the most compelling evidence that he predicted the techniques and works by Stravinsky and Les Six. To put it another way, given these points, he was regarded, perhaps for the most part unfairly, as a non-progressive reactionary henceforth around the time of his passing.LegacySaint-Saëns taught briefly in Paris, where his students included Gabriel Fauré. Maurice Ravel later studied with Fauré. In conclusion, both Ravel and Fauré were powerfully influenced by Saint-Saëns, whom they respected as a musical mastermind.

Alto Saxophone,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533347 Composed by Ali Ben Sou Alle, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Paul Wehage. Concert,Opera,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 22 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2348197. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533347). One of the most enigmatic figures in the history of the Saxophone, Ali Ben Sou Alle (Charles-Valentin Soualle) was born in 1820 in Arras, France. After receiving his first prize in Clarinet at the Paris Conservatory in 1844. he served as the director ofmusic of The French Marine Band in Senegal, and then was named first clarinet solo at the Opéra-Comique in Paris. However, after the Revolution of 1848, Soualle was forced to flee France to England where he settled in London, playing in the Orchestra of the Queen's Theatre. His songs and piano pieces were published in London. While in London, Soualle met another exiled French musician, Louis Antoine Jullien, who conducted a light music series in London. Jullien encouraged Soualle to take up the saxophone, and after modifying the instrument by adding a single octave mechanism (the modern system used today) and keys for the lower register, Soualle became known as a virtuoso and began touring performing solo recitals (or mono-concerts, as they were called at the time) calling his modified saxophone the «turcophone ». He performed in all the European capitals and then traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Manilla, Java, through China and then to India where he finally settled in Mysore, becoming the director of the Royal Music for the Maharadjah. It was during this period that he converted to Islam and changed his nmae to Ali ben Sou Alle (or Ali, son of Soualle). He subsequently travaled to Ile Maurice, to French Polynesia, the Cap of Natal and the Cap of Good Hope. All of these voyages were subjects of musical works which Soualle entitled Souvenirs de... and may perhaps have been part of a collection known as The Royal Album which was presented to the Prince of Wales after a royal concert. Soualle returned to Mysore in 1858 and was almost killed in the Indian Revolution. Around 1860, Soualle returned to France for health reasons and began publishing his own music. On March 27 1865, he performed a command performance for the Emperor Napoleon III at the Tuileries Palace in the presence of the entire Imperial Family. After 1865, nothing more is known about him. Soualle not only performed on the clarinet, saxophone and piano, but also frequently sang during his concerts. He also wrote songs while he was in London. His opera fantasies are usually written for the Alto saxophone and are generally in the form of an introductory aria with cadenza, a theme with one or more variations and then a final waltz movement in rondo form with a final brillant variation. This specific work opens with motives from the Opera‘s overture, leading to Donna Anna’s 1st act aria Or sai, chi l'onore. The duet Là ci darem la mano is the subject of two variations followed by a brief interlude using Zerlina’s aria Batti, batti, o bel Masetto and then the final section is the duo Andiam’ Andiam ‘ Mio Bene between Don Giovanni and Zerlina which ends the Act I duet. The work ends with a brillant coda

Meyerbeer’s Opera Le Prophète was one of the most influential works of the 19th century, inspiring Verdi, Wagner, Liszt andothers with its dramatic score. Caprice sur Le Prophète de Meyerbeer begins with an extended Aria with several cadenzas. The work ends with a Polka in Rondo form which has a brillant variation. One of the most enigmatic figures in the history of Wind Music, Ali Ben Sou Alle (Charles-Valentin Soualle) was born in 1820 in Arras, France. After receiving his first prize in Clarinet at the Paris Conservatory in 1844. he served as the director of music of The French Marine Band in Senegal, and then was named first clarinet solo at the Opéra-Comique in Paris. All of these voyages were subjects of musical works which Soualle entitled Souvenirs de... and may perhaps have been part of a collectionknown as The Royal Album which was presented to the Prince of Wales after a royal concert. Soualle returned to Mysore in 1858 and was almost killed in the Indian Revolution.Around 1860, Soualle returned to France for health reasons and began publishing his own music. On March 27 1865, he performed a command performance for the Emperor Napoleon III at the Tuileries Palace in the presence of the entire Imperial Family. After 1865, nothing more is known about him.
