David McKeown #4728531. Published by David McKeown (A0.587648). The Trumpet Tune and Air was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on the trumpet stop. Written around 1700, for many years this piece was attributed to Henry Purcell. But more recently many have questioned whether the composer was in fact Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. What is known is that the piece was written for a semi-opera called The Island Princess, and that both men contributed music to the production. In recent years this piece has become a popular wedding favourite. This full version is arranged as a solo for Tenor Saxophone and Piano and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The short sample here and the full length version on the youtube link are from the Clarinet version of this arrangement.Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. There are of course separate piano and instrumental parts included in downloaded the file.Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with strict time, full tone and dynamic contrast. Published by David McKeown (A0.592552). It’s Been a Long Long Time is arranged as a solo for one Tenor Saxophone with Piano accompaniment. It’s Been a Long Long Time is best known to modern audiences as the song at the end of The Avengers, Endgame, where Steve Rogers, after seventy years, finally gets his dance with Peggy Carter. The song of course, is much older. Two versions of It’s Been a Long Long Time topped the charts in late 1945, and as US servicemen returned from Europe and the Pacific, it perfectly caught the mood of the times. One version was by Bing Crosby, and the other by the Harry James Orchestra featuring Kitty Kallen on vocals. It is the latter version that is heard in Endgame and the one that forms the basis of this arrangement.Musicians at an intermediate standard will find It’s Been a Long Long Time ideal for formal and informal concert performances. with both solo instrument and piano enjoying plenty of melodic interest. David McKeown #4367392. Published by David McKeown (A0.587588). The Prince of Denmark’s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremonies. It was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop. Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard. This full version is arranged as a Solo for Tenor Saxophone and Piano; the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The single pdf file contains both the score and the solo instrumental part. Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both the solo and accompaniment enjoying melodic interest. Joplin lived for a while in Sedalia, Missouri and the Maple Leaf Club in that town is thought to have provided the name for this composition. It provided Joplin with a steady income for the rest of his life, and while he requested that it be played at his funeral, his wife refused as she felt it inappropriate. It was the first track on Joshua Rifkin’s famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and, never waning in popularity, it has featured in hundreds of films.This version for Cello and Piano includes all four sections of the original composition. Here, the famous main theme is arranged for Solo Tenor Saxophone and Piano, directly from the orchestral score. The first performance of the ballet in Moscow in 1877 was not well received. The production was fraught with disagreements between choreographer and composer; the Russian audience were suspicious of the story’s Germanic origins and the music was regarded as too complex for ballet. Tchaikovsky did not live to see a triumphant revival production in 1895 that confirmed Swan Lake as one of the greatest ballet scores of all. The piece was premiered in Paris in 1888, and underwent several revisions in subsequent years. The Requiem was performed at Fauré’s own funeral in 1924, but it’s only in recent years that this gentle version of the Mass for the Dead has received the international recognition it deserves. Contemporary performances in Parisian churches required the Pie Jesus to be sung by a boy treble, but in the concert hall, Fauré always preferred a soprano voice for the part.This arrangement transcribes the orchestral score as a Solo for Tenor Saxophone with Piano accompaniment. Both the piano score and the solo part are included in the pdf file. The linked youtube performance is the clarinet version of this arrangement.Soloists at an early intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The rhythms are straightforward, and there is plenty of scope for expressive, lyrical playing. The slow tempo though will require good breath and tone control. The piano part is suitable for an intermediate player. The writer, John Newton, led a dissolute life as a sailor in the slave trade for many years before marriage, along with a close encounter with death at sea, dramatically changed his perspective. He lived out his later years as a devout and charismatic clergyman in the English countryside, renowned for his direct and personal style. The words he wrote in Amazing Grace are an intimate retelling of his spiritual journey. The hymn was written in 1773, and was sung to many different melodies initially, but since the mid nineteenth century it has become most closely associated with the famous folk tune melody presented here, New Britain.This version is arranged as a solo for Tenor Saxophone with Piano accompaniment. The melody is played four times, each verse in a different style. Steal Away is a beautiful spiritual arranged here for Solo Tenor Saxophone and Piano.The words and music of Steal Away are credited to Wallis Willis, a Native American freedman from Oklahoma. A local minister transcribed the song and within a few years it became a firm gospel favourite. The words have a meaning beyond the spiritual, with hidden references to the Underground Railway of the time that helped escaped slaves cross to Canada. In more recent times Steal Away to Jesus was arranged by Michael Tippett in 1944 and recorded famously by Mahalia Jackson and Nat King Cole.
