Piano,Tenor Saxophone - Level 3 - SKU: A0.550456 Composed by Antonio Vivaldi. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Baroque,Christmas,Easter,Standards. Score and part. 21 pages. Jmsgu3 #4638433. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.550456). Sonata da Chiesa No. 3 in A Minor for Tenor Sax & Piano by Antonio Vivaldi in Four movements. Duration: ca. 15:38. Score: 15 pages. 206 measures.Antonio Vivaldi was an Italian composer and violinist in the Baroque period, who is widely considered to be one of the greatest composers of all time. He was a major influence on many other composers of the Baroque era, and his influence can still be felt in music today.Vivaldi's most important contribution to music history was his development of the sonata da chiesa, or church sonata. This form of composition was a variation on the Baroque sonata, and was used primarily in sacred music. It was characterized by a more lyrical approach to composition, with a focus on melody and harmonic structure. Vivaldi was one of the first composers to make use of this form, and his works set the standard for future composers. His church sonatas were written in a wide variety of keys and styles, and their influence can be heard in the works of later composers, such as J.S. Bach and Handel.Vivaldi's influence on music history is far-reaching, and his contributions to the development of the sonata da chiesa are among his most important. His compositions are still widely performed and appreciated today, and his legacy continues to shape the music of the modern era.

Piano,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - SKU: A0.533440 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Paul Wehage. Baroque,Concert,Standards. Score and part. 35 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2914077. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533440). In 1720 J. S. Bach was in the service of Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Cöthen, serving as his Kapellmeister. Since the court of Anhalt-Cöthen was Calvinist, Church music was limited to congregational psalms and hymns. Bach’s work during this period consisted of writing chamber music for the Prince, who was an accomplished violinist, gambist and harpsichordist. Other works from this period include the Cello Suites, the violin and keyboard sonatas,, the Flute sonatas and the partita for solo flute and the Orchestral SuitesThe Sonata no. III in g minor is written in a three-movement Concerto form. The first movement uses a main theme close to that of the first theme of the Third Brandeburg concerto. The slow movement is static and very sparce, but very expressive. The third movement is in the form of a gigue in the Italian style..

Piano,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - SKU: A0.754959 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and part. 50 pages. Sy Brandon #3225729. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.754959). This composition was composed for Jeffrey Kyle Hutchins, saxophone and EunHye Grace Choi, piano. It is in four movements. The first movement Boisterous is not in the classical sonata form, however, it does reflect sonata-like qualities with contrasting themes. It is very rhythmic and uses the interval of the fourth for its melodic and harmonic material. The second movement Whimsical’ is in a moderate tempo with five beats per measure. It is very playful as it alternates diatonic with chromatic passages with outbursts of musical laughter. Movement 3 Witty is in a scherzo style. The melody and harmony are based on thirds but are not in any clear key because the thirds will freely vary between major and minor creating an atonal quality. Contrast between staccato and legato is another way the movement is witty. The last movement is called Teasing and is in a modified Rondo form ABACBA. The teasing occurs in many different ways. The first appearance is the way the movement seems to stop and start as if promising a longer line, but not delivering. In the B section, the left hand of the piano plays a syncopated idea consisting of wide intervals and frequent rests. The right hand inserts a jeering four-note motive. The saxophone plays a melodic idea centered around a descending minor third, the universal teasing chant interval. The C section is in 7/8 and acts as a chase scene, as if a game of tag is being played. The ending continues the teasing by avoiding a strong cadence with deceptive chords and melodic lines of vague tonality/modality.

Menuett & 2 VariationsCarl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788) was an influential composer who worked during a time of transition between the Baroque and Classical styles of music. His personal approach, known as empfindsamer Stil or sensitive style, applied the principles of rhetoric and drama to musical structures. The duets composed by C.P.E. Bach are significant because they showcase his unique style and are considered to be some of his most important works. They are known for their unpredictability and expressive qualities, which were a departure from the style of his father, Johann Sebastian Bach.

Piano,Tenor Saxophone - Level 1 - SKU: A0.1156943 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Ander. Christmas,Classical,Instructional,March,Romantic Period. Score and part. 5 pages. Woods Only, Arrangements #757287. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1156943). This arrangement adapted for tenor saxophone and piano was designed to make its listeners weep with emotion, because the adaptation preserves the original essence of the work, keeping its integrity faithful to what Beethoven wanted to transmit, with only a slight change in tone and addition of harmonic resources in the structure of the arrangement. Even though it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion, being intended for beginner students who want to immerse themselves in the universe of romantic music, and nothing better than starting with the transitional composer of this period, which also does not prevent professional teachers from using it for recitals, academic presentations or didactic material in their classes as an ensemble practice. Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C minor sharp, Op. 27, No. 2, is one of his most popular compositions and was an audience favorite even in his day. Written when Beethoven was 31, the Moonlight Sonata (Mondscheinsonate in German) was composed after he finished some commissioned works, but there is no evidence that he was hired to write this work. It did not receive its nickname until 1832, five years after Beethoven's death. It was the critic Ludwig Rellstab who compared the music to a moonlighting on Lake Lucerne. This comparison was adopted as a nickname for the work. Called Quasi una fantasia by the author - like its companion Op. 27, No. 1 - the piece was completed in 1801 and dedicated the following year to one of the composer's pupils. Beethoven chose to open the sonata with a slow, hypnotic arpeggio movement, the best known of the entire work. The dotted rhythm of its minimal melody evokes the tradition of 'Trauermusik' (funeral music).

Piano,Tenor Saxophone - Level 1 - SKU: A0.548700 Composed by Franz Schubert. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas,Easter,Standards. Score and part. 4 pages. Jmsgu3 #3411149. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548700). A Tenor Sax Christmas/Easter classic! Duration: 4:55 Score: 3 pg. Alto Flute part: 1 pg. Piano reads from the score. Schubert seems to have composed this piece as a song-setting. This is because he wanted to portray a poignant emotional event from a poem. The poem was Walter Scott's The Lady of the Lake. Consequently, this song became an integral part of Schubert's Song cycle. Therefore the cycle is called: the Lady of the Lake. In the poem, Ellen Douglas is the Lady of the Lake. The lake is probably Loch Katrine in the Scottish Highlands. First of all, Ellen goes with her father to stay in the Goblin's cave. They go because he earlier refused to join in a rebellion against King James. Roderick Dhu, the chief of the rebellious Alpine Clan, marches up the mountain with his army. But before the battle, he, first of all, hears Ellen singing. She is singing a prayer calling for help from the Virgin Mary. Schubert's piece was first performed at the castle of Countess Sophie Weissenwolff in Steyregg, Austria.  Schubert dedicated the arrangement to her, and as a result, she became famous as the lady of the lake. The incipit of Ellen's song is Ave Maria which is Latin for Hail Mary. It seems like this similarity led Schubert to adapt the melody to accommodate the Roman Catholic prayer Ave Maria. Consequently, the Latin version of Ave Maria finally became more famous than the original so that consequently many believe he wrote the Latin version first. Schubert Franz Schubert (1797–1828) was, in fact, a famous Austrian composer. Moreover, he composed during the late Classical and early Romantic periods. Schubert was comparatively prolific. He wrote more than 600 secular vocal works, seven symphonies, and, correspondingly, a massive amount of piano and chamber music. Critics agree, as a matter of fact, that his most famous works include his Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667 (also known as the Trout Quintet), the Symphony No. 8 in B minor, D. 759 (Unfinished Symphony), the last sonatas for piano (D. 958–960), and the song cycles Die schöne Müllerin (D. 795) and Winterreise (D. 911). Piano,Tenor Saxophone - Level 3 - SKU: A0.549469 Composed by Alexander Scriabin. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #3499759. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549469). Score: 8 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 2 pages. Duration: 3:10. An introspective and meditative work with a lot of dynamic and phrasing nuance. Works well for church meditations or recital encores. Background Op.11/2 Alto Clarinet version. First of all, Scriabin composed mostly for the solo piano and also the orchestra. This is probably because he was a gifted pianist and therefore certainly appreciated the piano. Scriabin grew up in the late Romantic period, consequently, he was fond of the great piano masters of the time. As a result, he wrote his first noteworthy compositions in the manner of Chopin and Liszt. Forms Likewise, Scriabin used many of the same forms as Chopin. These certainly include the étude, prelude, nocturne, and even the mazurka. In contrast, as he developed his own sense of style his music became more and more unusual. So, the last five of his Piano Sonatas do not have a key signature and therefore lean towards atonality. Philosophy Scriabin also developed a keen interest in philosophy and likewise poetry. He was above all particularly fascinated by Nietzsche, Delville, and Blavatsky. Consequently, he finally established his own ideas about metaphysics and certainly mysticism. Scriabin consequently advanced theories about the relationship between color and musical keys. Synesthesia He also may have experienced a condition called synesthesia where he could probably sense a response created from a different stimulus. Therefore, it was almost as if he could see music and hear colors. Scriabin, therefore, arranged the colors in a circle similar to the circle-of-fifths and assigned each key area a color. Finally, he assigned the key of C to the color red, while the key of G was orange. Similarly, he assigned D to yellow, A to green, and so forth. Strangely, he did not differentiate between major and minor key colors. Multimedia Hence, his ability to translate colors into music certainly gave Scriabin a most noteworthy interest in creating multimedia events. Furthermore, He designed his biggest work, the Mysterium, to last an entire week. Even more, Scriabin made plans not only for music, but also colored lights, incense, and dancing. He designed the performance to occur in the foothills of the Himalaya mountains. The Mysterium was never performed, and only sketches of the work remain. Modern Performances In modern times, we often experience performances of Scriabin’s most famous completed works accompanied by colored laser lights and incense. These are the Poem of Ecstasy (completed in 1908) and the Poem of Fire (completed in 1910). The lighting effects for these early performances were accomplished by the clavier à lumiéres. It was a keyboard instrument that projected colored light onto a screen.
