Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 3 - SKU: A0.549895 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 23 pages. Jmsgu3 #3603415. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549895). Score: 12 pages, piano part: 6 pages, soprano sax part: 4 pages. duration: ca. 5'. This is the famous wedding march from Op. 61 composed in 1842 and commonly performed as a recessional march at the end of a wedding. The piece was originally composed for orchestra then arranged for organ and performed by Mendelssohn himself. Mendelssohn: Wedding MarchMendelssohn’s Wedding March is so popular that it’s difficult to imagine a wedding without it. It seems like it’s been around for eternity. In any case, it was only 150 years or so ago that the Wedding March came about. It was performed in Potsdam for the first time in 1842, as a piece of Mendelssohn’s music for the Shakespeare play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It was first used for a wedding in 1858Mendelssohn BackgroundFelix Mendelssohn (1809 –1847) was, by all means, a German mastermind composer, musician and orchestra conductor of the Romantic period. Consequently, Mendelssohn composed in the usual forms of the time - symphonies, concertos, oratorios, piano music, and chamber music. To summarize, his most famous works include his music for A Midsummer Night's Dream, the Italian Symphony, the Scottish Symphony, The Hebrides Overture, his later Concerto for Violin & Orchestra, and his Octet for Strings. His most well-known piano pieces, by and large, are the Songs Without Words. Artistic Standing Musical tastes change from time to time. Moreover, just such a change occurred in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This plus rampant antisemitism brought a corresponding amount of undue criticism. Fortunately, however, his artistic inventiveness has indeed been critically re-evaluated. As a result, Mendelssohn is once again among the most prevalent composers of the Romantic era.Early Family LifeMendelssohn was, in fact, born into a prominent Jewish family. His grandfather was, notably, the philosopher Moses Mendelssohn. Felix was, in fact, raised without religion. At the age of seven, he was all of a sudden baptized as a Reformed Christian. He was, moreover, a child musical prodigy. Nevertheless, his parents did not attempt to exploit his talent.Early AdulthoodMendelssohn was, in general, successful in Germany. He conducted, in particular, a revival of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, specifically with his presentation of the St Matthew Passion in 1829. Felix was truly in demand throughout Europe as a composer, conductor, and soloist. For example, he visited Britain ten times. There, he premiered, namely, many of his major works. His taste in music was. To be sure, inventive and well-crafted yet markedly conservative. This conservatism separated him by all means from more audacious musical colleagues like Liszt, Wagner, and Berlioz. Mendelssohn founded the Leipzig Conservatoire which, to clarify, became a defender of this conservative viewpoint.Mature AdulthoodSchumann notably wrote that Mendelssohn was the Mozart of the nineteenth century, the most brilliant musician, the one who most clearly sees through the contradictions of the age and for the first time reconciles them. This observation points to a couple of features in particular that illustrate Mendelssohn's works and his artistic procedure.Musical FeaturesIn the first place, his musical style was fixed in his methodical mastery of the style of preceding masters. This being said, he certainly recognized and even developed early romanticism from the music of Beethoven and Weber. Secondly, it indicates that Mendelssohn sought to strengthen his inherited musical legacy rather than to exchange it with new forms and styles or replace it with exotic orchestration. Consequently, he diverged his contemporaries in the romantic period, such as Wagner, Berlioz, and Liszt. Mendelssohn revered Liszt's virtuosity at the keyboard but found his musi.

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 4 - SKU: A0.533470 Composed by Ali Ben Sou Alle. Concert,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 15 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2994069. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533470). One of the most enigmatic figures in the history of the Saxophone, Ali Ben Sou Alle (Charles-Valentin Soualle) was born in1820 in Arras, France. After receiving his first prize in Clarinet at the Paris Conservatory in 1844. he served as the director ofmusic of The French Marine Band in Senegal, and then was named first clarinet solo at the Opéra-Comique in Paris. However, after the Revolution of 1848, Soualle was forced to flee France to England where he settled in London, playing in the Orchestra of the Queen's Theatre. His songs and piano pieces were published in London. While in London, Soualle met another exiled French musician, Louis Antoine Jullien, who conducted a light music series inLondon. Jullien encouraged Soualle to take up the saxophone, and after modifying the instrument by adding a single octavemechanism (the modern system used today) and keys for the lower register, Soualle became known as a virtuoso and begantouring performing solo recitals (or mono-concerts, as they were called at the time) calling his modified saxophone the«turcophone ». He performed in all the European capitals and then traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Manilla, Java, throughChina and then to India where he finally settled in Mysore, becoming the director of the Royal Music for the Maharadjah. It wasduring this period that he converted to Islam and changed his nmae to Ali ben Sou Alle (or Ali, son of Soualle). Hesubsequently travaled to Ile Maurice, to French Polynesia, the Cap of Natal and the Cap of Good Hope. All of these voyageswere subjects of musical works which Soualle entitled Souvenirs de... and may perhaps have been part of a collection knownas The Royal Album which was presented to the Prince of Wales after a royal concert. Soualle returned to Mysore in 1858 and was almost killed in the Indian Revolution.Around 1860, Soualle returned to France for health reasons and began publishing his own music. On March 27 1865, heperformed a command performance for the Emperor Napoleon III at the Tuileries Palace in the presence of the entire ImperialFamily. After 1865, nothing more is known about him.Alexandra was written on the occasion of the concert that Soualle gave fire Prince of Wales and is dedicated to the Princess of Wales. This piece opens « The Royal Album ». The dynamics, articulations and expressive markings were added by the editor.

Score and part. 22 pages. Jmsgu3 #5325875. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.551633). Claude Debussy: Arabesque 1, Duration: ca. 3:30. Debussy's Arabesques are considered to be one of the earliest expressions of French impressionism. They are a suite of two piano pieces that contain hints of Debussy's developing musical style. Although they did not receive much attention when they were first published, they are now regarded as early impressionist standards. Debussy seems to wander through modes and keys, achieving evocative scenes throughout both pieces. The Arabesques are important in the history of music as they represent a significant development in the impressionist movement. Claude Debussy was a French composer born in 1862 who developed a highly original system of harmony and musical structure that expressed the ideals of the Impressionist and Symbolist painters and writers of his time. He is considered one of the most important and influential composers of the 20th century. Debussy's compositions, including his orchestral poems and piano music, helped establish the musical language for much of the twentieth century. Critics often credited Debussy with pioneering a genre called impressionism, although Debussy consistently rejected the term. Debussy's best-known musical arabesque is his Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune (1894).

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 4 - SKU: A0.533492 Composed by Ali Ben Sou Alle. Concert,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 16 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3000185. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533492). Souvenirs d’Angleterre is composed of an opening aria with a number of cadenzas followed by a Valse brillante with variations. Stylistically, the work seems to be more influenced by German Classical music (note especially the classical piano figurations in the opening aria, reminiscent of such composers as Beethoven and Weber). The Valse has an expressive variation in a minor key and the entire work ends, elegantly, pianissimo. After 1865, nothing more is known about him.

The first piece of this set of 3 was his first published piece in 1883, at the age of 27. It was originally written for violin and piano, and it was said to been dedicated to a secret woman that he met in Scotland. These pieces are calm and not fancy or complicated. They are simple, easy-listening works that would do well in a peaceful setting. Scored for Bb soprano saxophone and piano, this arrangement is geared towards musicians with intermediate music skills. Duration: 8.5 minutes.

Jmsgu3 #984760. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1401579). The historical context of Scriabin's Prelude, Op. 51 No. 2 is rooted in the broader tradition of preludes as improvisatory pieces that precede performances on keyboard instruments. Scriabin's composition, part of his Quatre Morceaux (Four Pieces) Op. 51, published in 1906, reflects his innovative approach to piano music within the musical landscape of the early 20th century. This piece, along with others by Scriabin, demonstrates a blend of traditional influences and his quest to develop a distinctive and original style in his compositions. The meaning behind Scriabin's Prelude, Op. 51 No. 2 is characterized by its emotional depth and expressive qualities, reflecting the composer's unique musical language and style. This piece, along with others by Scriabin, delves into themes of fatigue, exhaustion, eternity, and millions of years, as described by the composer. In this prelude, Scriabin's use of dissonance, tonal centers, and harmonic language conveys a sense of obsessively seeking out pain or grief. The composition captures a range of emotions, from fatigue to a cry in the night, showcasing Scriabin's ability to evoke intense feelings through his music.

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 3 - SKU: A0.844539 Composed by Robert Schumann. Arranged by Phil Beaman. Concert,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 7 pages. Phil Beaman #3509457. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844539). In 1849 Robert Schumann completed a set of Romantic character pieces for piano which he named Forest Scenes. One of that set was called Pleasant Landscape, which I have freely arranged for accompanied Instrumental Solo. I have slowed it down considerably from the original and marked it with passionate energy. The beauty and interest is created by the shaping and phrasing of this beautiful melodic line. It has a rubato feeling throughout with constant tempo changes like rall, molto rall, freely, accel, etc. In keeping with the characteristics of the Romantic period my arrangement is full of interpretive marks in every measure making it a great piece for auditions to show your technique and interpretation. Not too difficult to play but sounds quite advanced when all details are observed. The equally beautiful piano part provides great interplay of expressive harmony and countermelody. A beautiful piece to show your expressive musicianship and impress them in either concert or audition. Marked Intermediate due to the plethora of markings to observe, musicianship that is required for a mature performance, and a 2 octave range that will push the limits of some instruments.3:10 minutes, 5 page score, 2 page solo partTemporary recording of a piano reduction of total score.

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 4 - SKU: A0.845319 Composed by Z Noskowski. Arranged by Phil Beaman. Concert,Romantic Period,Wedding. Score and part. 7 pages. Phil Beaman #6753025. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.845319). In 1897 the great Polish composer Zygmund Noskowski composed four characteristic pieces for piano, each piece evoking a different spring flower. This duet between an Instrumental Solo and piano is my arrangement of Rose from Fleurs du Printemps, Op 48 (Rose, from Flowers of Spring). It is expressive, portraying the beauty of the Rose. I have added considerable markings of articulation and dynamics and phrasing to bring out this expressiveness. I have also changed the tempos to create more emotional variety between the thematic sections and I wrote a new ending with an Instrumental cadenza. The solo instrument plays the various melodic themes while I created a new piano part based on the original chords. The melody contains many accidentals as is typical in the Romantic period. Accessible for the average player yet with enough markings and nuances to satisfy expert players with the results. Definitely a concert or audition piece to show musicianship. Also well suited for Wedding music.Solo range - nearly 2 octaves (14th)5 page score, 2 page part2:35 minutes

Preludio s.r.l. #6258333. Published by Preludio s.r.l. (A0.808991). Vincenzo Palermo's Sonata for saxophone and piano uses the soprano and alto saxophone and is in one movement only. As in other pieces by the Neapolitan composer, elements of minimalist writing are combined with a wise and elegant reinterpretation of the classical language, which produces an evident and controlled narrative dimension of the piece. Against the light we also hear echoes of french music, which are inevitably linked to the sonic imagery of the classical saxophone. From this the sonata takes part of the harmonic dimension, so essential but colorful, which is perfectly suited to the clear character (which is rare in the contemporary repertoire!) of this piece.SCORE and PARTS available.

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 2 - SKU: A0.844551 Composed by Robert Franz. Arranged by Phil Beaman. Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 6 pages. Phil Beaman #3517847. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844551). Robert Franz was a Romantic Era composer of lieder (German Art Song) whose pieces were highly praised by Schumann. When I removed the important lyrics from Feast of Love in order to make an accompanied instrumental solo I needed to convey the passionate drama just in the music. I changed a simple strophic form into an ABA Coda with every verse getting a different treatment. My harmony is much richer and more varied than the original. I added new articulations, dynamics, and other markings as well as a cadenza for one of the bridges. Excellent piece for a student to learn Romantic characteristics of expression, phrase shaping, and sempre rubato. This song is also excellent for Weddings. Alternative translations of the title are Celebration of Love and Love's Fire. You can definitely feel the fire and passion in this beautiful piece! This arrangement is not difficult to play, but is marked Early Intermediate because it requires musicianship to play well.3 minutes4 pages score, 2 page solo partTemporary recording of piano reduction of full score.

Jmsgu3 #5321087. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.551596). Gabriel Fauré: Berceuse, Op. 16. Berceuse, Op. 16 is a short piece by Gabriel Fauré, written in or about 1879. Originally composed for solo violin and piano, it has been arranged for various musical forces, including violin, orchestra, and string quartet. Despite Fauré's modest assessment of the piece, it gained popularity and has been recorded by numerous artists, from Eugène Ysaÿe in 1912 to Yehudi Menuhin in the 1970s. The berceuse is not thematically related to the first movement of Fauré's Dolly Suite, which is also a berceuse. It is known for its charming and soothing melody and has become one of Fauré's best-known pieces.
