Handel's Arrival from the Queen of Sheba come from Solomon (HWV 67), an oratorio by George Frideric Handel; arranged for Clarinet Quintet, plus extra parts if you need them!The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, sinfonia for two oboes and strings by George Frideric Handel that premiered in London on March 17, 1749, as the first scene of Act III in the oratorio Solomon. One of the last of Handel’s many oratorios, Solomon is rarely performed in its entirety, but Handel’s bright and lively The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba interlude is a widely appreciated processional set piece. It often was (and it continues to be) played during wedding ceremonies. A noted public performance of the piece occurred during the opening ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympic Games.Its libretto is based on the biblical stories of wise king Solomon and is attributed to Newburgh Hamilton. A cracking arrangement of the Ellington classic ''Satin Doll'', arranged for Clarinet Quintet and opt. drumset. A great chart for your quintet to get their teeth into. The arrangement would suit pro brass quintets and school quintets. The drum part is optional. The melody is passed around the ensemble, with the horn and trombone all having a say. Trombone has some great licks! The solo in the middle is also split amongst the players, giving it a conversational quality. Published by Stephen Davies (A0.1050184). Percy Graingers' interesting life and eccentricities are widely known, however he was a master of his art. Most musicians will be familiar with the Tonic-Solfa ( Do Re Me etc), without boring you too much, a 'moveable' Do is the tonic of any key, a 'Fixed Do' is always a C !! In this piece Grainger employs his own 'Immovable Do', a C that is constant throughout the piece, even though it's in F!!! Now this would cause difficulties for any wind group!!! Graingers' instructions for anyone playing the melody on the Harmonium & Organ .. these notes should be stuck fast with pencils, and thus held down to the very end of the piece... So my solution is to seamlessly dovetail the C between an Eb and a Bb Clarinet, so that the fixed Do is to all intents and purposes always sounding. Graingers subtitle to the piece was ' The Cyphering C', which according to Chambers dictionary Cyphering means:- ' In an Organ, continuous sounding of a note not played, due to a mechanical failure '! The more melodic parts are a joy to listen to, with an infectious original tune, weaving between all the players.

I wrote this Sonatina in 2005 and in 2006 it was presented both in my annual composition exam and the annual chamber music exam of some friends of mine (clarinetists) who really enjoyed playing it. Keeping in mind our mutual love for the Bulgarian folklore music and having roots in neighbour villages it wasn't accidentally.NB.
