It is a short piece that uses two familiar tunes to illustrate some musical concepts and techniques.First comes “Row Your Boatâ€, played with harmonies and then in a round (canon). Then we move into “Lightly Row†following a short transition. This is harmonized and the bass clarinet plays an Alberti bass. Scored for E flat Clarinet, 3 B flat Clarinet, Alto and Bass Clarinet, March of the Musketeers is a bright heroic march based upon the characters in the story of The Three Musketeers Quite a simple piece, it is in ternary form starting in the concert key of F major with the middle section in B flat major, before returning to F major and on to a flourishing ending. The outer sections have strong melodic lines underpinned crisp staccato support providing a solid striding beat. The middle section (which should be played in exactly the same pulse) is more lyrical and legato featuring triplets, but still retains the underpinning crotchet beat, but with a more delicate approach for variation. After a short link passage which features a couple of time signature changes, the main theme returns with a short coda- like few bars to take the piece to a conclusion. The full score is 15 pages and the parts are 3 each. It is 4 mins 15 in length. The whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.1291975). Christmas Waltz is a short gentle waltz for Clarinet choir scored for E flat Clarinet, 3 B flat Clarinets, Alto and Bass Clarinet. I wanted this piece to convey the feeling of the shared warmth of having family and friends meeting over the festive season when everything is done, and now it’s time to enjoy! Written in Concert E flat major the introduction begins with a bell- like Christmas chime settling into the main theme which is almost like a verse and chorus. The piece has two of these sections with a link between the two. The second section is a different treatment to the first as some of the bell like figurations of the opening are incorporated. There is also a mix of staccato and legato phrasing to give contrast. The Chorus part is repeated before a short quiet reflective ending. The range is two octaves at most and there is nothing more complicated than an eighth note- hence it has been set in early intermediate level. The custom of the Christmas tree developed in the course of the 19th century, and the song came to be seen as a Christmas carol. The modern lyrics were written in 1824 by the Leipzig organist, teacher and composer, Ernst Anschutz. A tannenbaum is a fir tree. The lyrics do not actually refer to Christmas or describe a decorated tree. Scored for Clarinet in E flat, 3 B flat Clarinets, Alto and Bass Clarinet, Weekend in Paris is a bright jazz waltz intended to convey the excitement and anticipation of a trip to Paris. The music is to bring to mind pleasure in sightseeing, wandering around cafe's, seeing children at play, people dancing and laughing and families gathering in a happy relaxed atmosphere in the glorious sunshine. The piece is in Concert D flat major establishing the bright swingy rhythm, this then flows into the second section which is more lyrical and legato. A short bridge section follows keeping the motif's heard in the first section but exploring the lower registers and remains largely legato. The first two sections are then heard again before a modulation takes place to give the piece a final lift before the end. The piece concludes quietly with a snippet of the opening motif. I have set it to intermediate level but the whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability. The music would be a great addition to any repertoire as a happy piece, programmatic with a world/travelling theme in mind. Full score 16 pages-parts 4 pages. 4 mins 30 in length.
